Worried Your Blood Sugar May Take an Overnight Dip?
 
Some people may fall asleep worried about fitful dreams or early alarm clocks, but others have a more dramatic fear: that they won't wake up if their blood sugar gets too low at night.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) that hits while you sleep can be a serious problem, says the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Researchers have found that sleep can interfere with a body's normal response to hypoglycemia.

Normally, when you have a low blood sugar, your body releases hormones that raise the blood sugar. Epinephrine (or adrenaline) is probably the most important of these chemicals.

While you sleep, however, the epinephrine response to hypoglycemia can be a lot lower than when you're awake, which might be why you don't wake up during the night if your blood sugar drops too low, says the ADA.

If you think you're experiencing hypoglycemia during the night, the ADA recommends setting your alarm clock for 3 a.m. so you can check your blood sugar. If your blood sugar is below 65 mg/dl, you should lower your nighttime insulin dose or take a bedtime snack to prevent hypoglycemia. You might also be able to change the kind of insulin you take to reduce nighttime low blood sugars.

Gay Adoption To Proceed: UK Catholic Agency Loses Fight Over Same-Sex Parents

LONDON (RNS) A Roman Catholic adoption agency has lost its fight for the right to continue its policy of refusing to place children with same-sex couples based on religious principles.

The agency, Catholic Care, saw its battle to limit its adoption services to heterosexual-only parents collapse in a ruling Thursday (August 19) by the powerful Charity Commission, an independent watchdog in England, although funded by the British government.

After a lengthy legal wrangle, the Charity Commission decreed that Charity Care's stance amounted to discrimination based on sexual orientation because it "departs from the principle of treating people equally."

Charity Care had been targeted by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which insisted such discrimination, was in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, to which Britain is a signatory.

Charity Care officials had said earlier that if it lost the case, it would shut down its adoption service rather than risk weakening or even losing its Catholic affiliation, but has yet to make a final decision.

Britain passed gay rights legislation in January 2009 that ordered 12 Catholic adoption services to either close down or cut their ties with the church.

Eleven have chosen one option or the other, leaving Charity Care the last to continue the fight.

Remember:  Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations and to Proposition 8 (California) to prevent gay marriage. The Formal Boycott began this past weekend. I stopped shopping these stores - even though I want a new washer/dryer and new clothes for the Fall.  I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time!   Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's is the right thing to do.   Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being.   They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp.  Therefore, goodbye Target and Best Buy!  The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions!  What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
