Today's Health/Excercise Tip:
A Daily Defense for Diabetics: Antioxidants

Are you feeding your body enough antioxidants? It's important to fuel up with these disease-fighting warriors because they protect the body from harmful substances known as free radicals. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals that disrupt our natural cancer-fighting defenses and damage cellular structures in our body. Diabetes complications may be linked to an excess of free radicals in the body, as high blood glucose facilitates their formation.

Scientists say that eating antioxidant-rich food can enhance immune defense and lower the risk of cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants include vitamins A, C, and E, beta-carotene, and the mineral selenium.

To get vitamin A, nosh on leafy greens and red, orange and yellow fruits, such as carrots, mango, peach, pumpkin, tomato and squash. Chowing down on broccoli and citrus fruit will give you a super-shot of vitamin C, while almonds, nuts, seeds, vegetable oil, and wheat germ can supply you with vitamin E.

To reap the benefits of selenium, feast on cashews, halibut, oysters, salmon and scallops. And soy, red wine and tea are good sources of phytochemicals, a type of antioxidant.

If you're like most Americans and don't get the recommended five servings of antioxidants a day, consider taking an antioxidant supplement.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck: 'I Actually Support Gay Marriage,' President Obama 'Incredibly Cool Guy'
08-24-10 / Huffington Post

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has some surprising opinions.

In a two-part interview with Fancast, the conservative co-host of "The View" came out in support of gay marriage and described President Obama as "an incredibly cool guy."

"I am not ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue. I actually support gay marriage," she told Fancast in part one. "I think the gay marriage thing would definitely surprise people. I mean, for some people, it will surprise them to the point that they won't want to hear it. 'No, that can't be, I really want to have this sort of idea of her in my head,' so I sort of rain on their parade there. I am a person that does believe that life begins at conception, but I also don't believe that the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. So I'm torn there in terms of supporting laws [for or against abortion]. I always say I would rather change a heart than a law. I think it has to start there. Always trying to mandate, mandate, mandate this or that is not the way that I believe this country should run."

Hasselbeck said it would be more appropriate to describe her as a "Federalist" than a "conservative."

In part two of the interview, Hasselbeck told Fancast that she enjoyed hanging out with Obama backstage, even if she grilled him on-set.

"I think I'm still decompressing from the [experience]," she said. "I was really thankful to have the ability to sit there with our president, to be able to ask him face-to-face a question that I thought so many people have on their minds and [in their] hearts.... The president is an incredibly cool guy. We were able to go backstage with him [after the show] in our Green Room and talk about how everything seemed pretty orderly with him there and how comfortable everyone was. And there was definitely a moment - I mean, he and I looked at each other, and I remember him answering my question and I could see the intensity in his eyes. He wasn't just answering me, he was sending through me a message to the American people that felt special."

"Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."

Remember:  Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations and to Proposition 8 (California) to prevent gay marriage. The Formal Boycott began this past weekend. I stopped shopping these stores - even though I want a new washer/dryer and new clothes for the Fall.  I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time!   Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's is the right thing to do.   Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being.   They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp.  Therefore, goodbye Target and Best Buy!  The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions!  What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
