Today's Health/Excercise Tip:Bedtime Snacking 101A light bedtime snack can help keep blood sugar steady during sleep, as well as reduce the risk of midnight binge-eating. But how many calories should you aim for, and what types of foods?
According to American Diabetes Association researchers, the answer depends on your blood sugar level before bed. For those diabetics with blood sugar in the normal range, or 101-180 mg/dL, a snack should consist of about 14% of your total daily calories.
Smart snack choices include foods high in starchy carbs and protein, such as peanut butter on toast or cheese and crackers. If blood sugar falls below normal, add juice or milk to your usual snack.
For those with unusually high nighttime blood sugar, above 181 mg/dL, no snack may be necessary. As always, consult your doctor if you notice irregular swings in blood sugar.

Texas isn't the only state where the Republican Party's platform calls for making homosexuality illegal. The Associated Press reported this weekend that in Montana - where Tea Party leaders like to joke about Matthew Shepard's murder - the state GOP has a plank in its platform that calls for imprisoning the gays. The only difference is, in Montana at least one Republican elected official, State Sen. John Brueggeman, is willing to speak out against the platform. When GOP politicians in Texas are asked about anti-gay language in their party's platform, they typically respond by saying things like they haven't read the platform in its entirety, they don't agree with everything in it, and it isn't really that important anyway. In other words, they may not personally support locking up queers, but they're too afraid that if they speak out against the platform, it will alienate their right-wing base.
Anyhow, it sure is nice to be thought of in the same light as Montana, which according to New West Blog's Bob Wire is known to rest of the country as "just a grizzly-infested outpost that contains nothing but paranoid psychopathic hillbillies." Incidentally Wire's headline, which I've copied above, says "Illegal to be gay? What is this, Texas?" So I guess that tells us what the Lone Star State has become known for.
Remember: Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations and to Proposition 8 (California) to prevent gay marriage. The Formal Boycott began this past weekend. I stopped shopping these stores - even though I want a new washer/dryer and new clothes for the Fall. I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time! Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's is the right thing to do. Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being. They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp. Therefore, goodbye Target and Best Buy! The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions! What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
