Recently I have been very disturbed regarding the pedophilia within the Roman Catholic Church, and the cover-up by the hierarchy, all the way up to Ratzenberger himself. It shows me that even the Pope is just another man who has gained the influence within the organization to be revered more than other men. Denial of the Holocaust and denial of the pedophilia are pretty much equal in my mind. They both were atrocities to the victims for the rest of their mortal lives. "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" seems appropriate for the perps, including both the sins of commission and the sins of omission. I have a 4 y.o. grandson who is being raised as a R.C., and I don't know what I would do if he became a victim. I know what I would like to do ... and I would gladly spend the rest of my life in prison for it!

Yes I couldn't remember his name.
What i do know is that if the reigning pope at the time of the Holocaust had spoken out, all those that did what he said would have been killed or imprisoned and all of the monastreries and convents whose mother abbesses and abbots arranged for the hiding of Jews within their walls , would have been thoroughly searched on a regilar basis and Hitler may have demanded that the Pope be put under house arrest or worse.
The only thing that may have done would have has many fascist Italians decide that Hitler was no ally for a Roman Catholic.
It is a very deep subject and no doubt the Pope (Pius 12th) new about much of what was happening to the German and Austrian and Czech Jews,
but how soon he learned of the actual death camps is another thing.
However, he should have spoken out against Hitler in 1934 when the Laws against German Jews were enacted.
This may have thwarted any co-operation from any non-Jews in the later occupied countries and it may have indirectly resulted in the saving of hundreds of thousands of Jews, especially in Hungary and Poland, as they would have been told that it was sin to help the Nazis persecute the Jews in any way.

Butch (and all in the group), I am sorry that I wasn't more clear. I didn't mean that Pope Benedict does not speak of the Nazi attempted extermination of the entire world's Jews (although I don't know that he DOES, either). I meant that Pope Pius XII knew everything during World War II and refused to mention it or acknowledge that he knew it, during or even after the war. I do think Pope Benedict is a walking disaster, but it is Pope Pius XII that I think should have been dethroned: someone who does nothing to protest or stop evil that he knows about with hard proof is part of the evil, not just an innocent bystander.
