markets

By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor
WWE announced details today on a new U.S. and international partnership with
Burger King, one of the leading fast-food chains in the world. The
partnership will include WWE toys included with kid's meals.
Burger King will be including a toy featuring John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and
Triple H during the promotion. A new toy will be rolled out each week during
a three-week U.S. promotion.
The promotion will run from Monday, August 23 through Sunday, September in
7,000 BK locations in the U.S. Additionally, the toys will be available in
more than 3,000 BK locations in Mexico, Germany, Spain, and the U.K.
Burger King will be airing commercials featuring the toys during programming
on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney XD aimed at kids.
Caldwell's Analysis: It's certainly a good promotion for WWE as they try to
build on their PG programming goals trying to get the WWE product in the
hands of kids. The BK Kid's Meal promotion illustrates pretty well what
Linda McMahon said last year - when she was still WWE CEO - about WWE's PG
marketing approach being "cradle to the grave" trying to hook the audience
young and keep them engaged as they grow up.
