And Now, Our War of the Fittest!Today's Health/Excercise Tip:Consumer Reports Recommends Pot, Why Not The Feds?/ WEHO NEWSWest Hollywood, California (November 30, 2009) - All efforts to keep marijuana a controlled substance and illegal to use should be stopped. All prisoners who are in jail for marijuana should be released. Marijuana should be legalized to be sold and taxed, just like alcohol.This isn't just my opinion. These are the recommendations of Consumers Union, the non-profit organization that produces Consumer Reports that tests lawnmowers, cars and kitchen utensils.
What is pitiful is that Consumers Union published this recommendation in 1974 in their comprehensive review book "Licit and Illicit Drugs" and the United States government still hasn't done it, 35 years later.
Did you know that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol? Well, that's the opinion of Norm Stamper, former Seattle Chief of Police. (See: http://www.alternet.org/story/137752/) Stamper notes that pot smokers don't race their cars like drunks do and don't get into fights like drunks do because pot use reduces aggression, while alcohol can increase it.
He also notes that excessive alcohol consumption is the third leading cause of the death in the USA. Marijuana isn't even mentioned as a cause.
Excess alcohol consumption contributes to a number of mental and physical health problems with the negative impact in the United States estimated to cost us about $150 billion dollars a year.
While years ago, the powers-that-be worked to create much misinformation about marijuana causing all kinds of problems, recent studies confirm that THC, the cannabinoid molecule in marijuana that produces much of the "high" is profoundly anti-cancer and anti-tumor.
One study showed that moderate pot smokers experienced over 60 percent less head and neck cancers than those who don't smoke pot. In fact, cannabinoids, the molecules that cause the marijuana high are currently being studied in university-level studies for their anti-cancer effects, including cell growth inhibition, anti-inflammatory effects and tumor regression.
While there is no doubt that alcohol abuse is involved in many different types of crimes, marijuana use appears to do the exact opposite.
The Netherland, which has had a liberal policy on marijuana since 1976, just announced that they are closing eight prisons because of a lack of criminals. So goes our DEA's statement some years ago that the loose drug policy of the Netherlands would cause more crime. Apparently, people who have legal access to pot don't break laws as much.
I, for one, who've dealt with injuries and surgery this last year can confirm that medical marijuana is a better option in some ways than addictive painkillers like Vicodin. I hadn't smoked pot in over 30 years when a friend gave me some for sleep after my shoulder surgery.
What a revelation. Works better and is healthier than addictive pain killers! I use a marijuana vaporizer to avoid the smoke, so I expect it's even better for reducing cancer risk.
Support your city and state representatives that want to change the legal status of marijuana and tell your Congressperson how you feel about this issue.

Investigators: Case Will Be Considered Hate CrimeSeptember 15, 2010 / WESH OrlandoORLANDO, Fla. -- A brutal beating involving nine teenagers on Monday will be considered a hate crime, authorities with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said. A-20-year-old man told deputies he was walking in the area of Long and Barbara roads when he was approached by the group. The victim told investigators he was asked whether he was gay before the attack. "One asked if I was gay, and I said, 'What if I am?'" the unidentified victim said. The victim, who said he is bisexual, didn't want to use his name because he is scared of the people who attacked him. "The next thing I know, I felt somebody hit me from behind, and then they punched me," the victim said. The victim said the attackers first asked to use his cell phone and then chased him across a field off Clarcona-Ocoee Road. He said he felt a hand grab his neck. "I have a busted lip on the inside," the victim said. Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said because he was targeted because of his sexual orientation, the case will be investigated as a hate crime. "I feared for my life. This stuff doesn't happen that often," the victim said. Other young gay men in the area said they're worried because the assailants have not been arrested. "I can't believe we live in a world where people are ignorant," Ryan Boyken said. "Why would you do that?" "It did make us somewhat more concerned about it here," Center for Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders Executive Director Randy Stephens said. At the center in Orange County, they understand what the victim is going through. They cited nearly 1,300 attacks in 2008 based on sexual orientation alone. The center itself was vandalized, and a security system was installed. Stephens said members will reach out to the victim, and many may learn from his ordeal. "We can use an example that he had the guts to tell the police, to report that this was what happened to him," Stephens said. Stephens said many cases go unreported because the victims don't want to be identified. The victim in the most recent attack said he plans to move out of the neighborhood because he believes the assailants know where he lives.
"Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."

The Formal Boycott began this past weekend. I stopped shopping these stores - even though I want a new washer/dryer and new clothes for the Fall. I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time! Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's is the right thing to do. Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being. They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp. Therefore, goodbye Target and Best Buy! The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions! What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
