Today's Health - Wellness / Exercise / Reflections:A Lesson LearnedBy John H. Sklare, Ed.D / Dec 27, 2010I said something to a friend that seemed to jump out of my mouth without any conscious thought. He was telling me about his failure on a project he was working on, and said that he learned a lot in the process, but it turned out to be a big waste of his time. My response: "A lesson learned is never time wasted."
That phrase is also applicable to you. Often, when people come up short of reaching their goal, they feel like a failure. In my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth, particularly if you've learned something important along the way. When you find yourself feeling disappointed or emotionally devastated because you didn't reach a targeted goal, don't just feel the pain and disappointment from it learn from it! Failure is often the precursor of success, and as I told my friend, a lesson learned is never time wasted.

Take Action:
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck on Fox News as well as all of FOX NEWS! Glenn has lied about Health-care, called our President a racist, and is anti-gay rights.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to get be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Further, Bill said that McDonalds would never show a gay friendly commercial in the USA. Imagine, Bill is comparing Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of senile - Sen. John McCain: because of their Hateful anti-Immigration Law that encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform. Further, Their Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and blocked Immigration reform! We shall hold the voters of Arizona responsible!
- NEW: Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations.
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). It prevents Fed'l employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. It prevents married gay couples from gaining Fed'l Benifits.
- We need ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). We do not want to be fired from our job because we are GAY!
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! Do not donate to them
- Boycott Gold's Gym for donating loads of money to anti-gay candidates.

Men: We were attacked for being gay
At least 2nd attack this year on 4th Street
Austin News - KXAN / Dec 27, 2010 / Reagan Hackleman
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Bobby Beltran and Christopher Ortega are still somewhat in shock about what happened to them early Sunday morning.
"This happened on 4th Street, right in the middle of everything, on Christmas night," Beltran said.
The two were wrapping up Christmas celebrations at RAIN , a gay bar. Around closing time, the two left and parted ways on the corner 4th and Lavaca with a hug.
"Shortly thereafter, a car drove by," Beltran said.
Inside the car, according to both Beltran and Ortega, were five men who started yelling homophobic slurs.
"After that I said, 'Get out of here. That stuff is not welcome out here in Austin,'" Beltran said.
What happened next, the two did not expect. The five men got out of the car and for the next 5 to 10 minutes, the men took turns kicking and punching the both of them.
During the beating both Ortega and Beltran say the men continued yelling homophobic slurs.
"You could tell, it was almost coordinated," said Ortega.
The two say the only thing they were thinking, where are the cops?
And, "Stay alive. Keep your face protected, stay alive, survive," Beltran said.
The attack stopped after a friend yelled the cops where coming. When they did show up they didn't have much to say, according to the two men.
"The response was sorry guys, we'll give you a report number. We'll never catch these guys," Ortega said.
This is at least the 2nd time this year two gay men have been beat up after leaving a gay bar on 4th Street. The first beating happened in February just down the street near City Hall. So far, no arrests have been made.
"I'm going to keep on pursuing this because I want justice. I want to know that this is not going to happened again to anybody," Beltran said.
Statistically speaking, if caught the attackers probably won't face hate crime charges.
According to statistics from the Texas Department of Public Safety, since Texas enacted its hate crime law back in 2001, more than 2,500 hate crimes offenses have been reported. Of those, only 11 have been prosecuted.
This legislative session the Texas house will vote on a bill that will study the hate crime law in Texas to determine why it's rarely used.
