Today's Health - Wellness / Exercise / Reflections:Anxiety and DiabetesIs there a link between having diabetes and always feeling anxious? Maybe, says the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
Of course, plenty of people feel anxious, whether they have diabetes or not. But having the disease adds an extra burden of worry. It can be hard to tell the difference between normal (and even useful) worrying and the kind that indicates a problem.
Additionally, low blood glucose levels can contribute. When blood glucose levels are low, people often say they feel shaky and agitated, which can be embarrassing and even dangerous. Many diabetics can have low glucose anxiety, says the ADA. Preventing lows is important, but so is preventing highs. That's why it's important to maintain stable blood glucose levels.
Here are some tips from the ADA on dealing with anxiety:
- Try to picture clearly what worries you. Picture it and describe it to yourself in detail. Sometimes writing it down helps.
- Does anything help you manage your worry? Some people find relief in physical exertion or exercise. Others find relief in meditation, prayer or laughter. Some find that making one step toward changing the worry helps. Talking about your worry to a friend or family member may also help. Try different approaches and repeat the ones that work best.
- If nothing helps and you can't think of anything that would help, the ADA recommends that you talk to your health care provider.

Take Action:
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck on Fox News as well as all of FOX NEWS! Glenn has lied about Health-care, called our President a racist, and is anti-gay rights.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to get be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Further, Bill said that McDonalds would never show a gay friendly commercial in the USA. Imagine, Bill is comparing Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of senile - Sen. John McCain: because of their Hateful anti-Immigration Law that encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform. Further, Their Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and blocked Immigration reform! We shall hold the voters of Arizona responsible!
- NEW: Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations.
- NEW: Boycott Gold's Gym for donating loads of money to anti-gay candidates.

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' vs. Gay Marriage
By
They're the two dominant gay-rights issues today, but how do marriage and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" compare to each other, politically?
At The Corner, Maggie Gallagher tries to relate DADT's nascent repeal to the fight over marriage, perceiving a trend in American culture that backgrounds both debates:
... the inability of those who opposed DADT repeal to kill this bill in the lame duck, even in light of the strong opposition to repeal from troops in the field, is an example of the growing mismatch in culture power -- the power to name reality, the power to determine which stories get told and whose feelings count.
For Gallagher, the DADT debate revealed a cultural mainstreaming of gay rights, which ultimately led to the political consensus around repealing the military's policy.
Gay rights, and homosexuality in general, do seem far more supported/accepted now than they were five or ten years ago, but few actual metrics that come to mind. Fictional gay couples now star in primetime network sitcoms, where "Will and Grace" once seemed kind of edgy. Our last Republican president, Dick Cheney, has a lesbian daughter and supports gay rights. The former chairman of the Republican National Committee is gay.
But there's a mismatch in public opinion on the issues of DADT and marriage, regardless of whether cultural attitudes have changed. The public has long supported a repeal of DADT, while it has opposed gay "marriage."
See the following chart from Gallup on DADT, from May 2010:
And on gay marriage, from the same month:
