It is reprehensible that this kind of thing would be tolerated a at anyone's funeral!!

I wonder what would happen if hundred of Americans would show up every Sunday at the Westboro Baptist Church to protest against them while they are holding their worship service (assuming they take time out from their busy rabble-rousing schedule to actually hold worship services)? What's good for the goose might not be so bad for the gander! Remember. In the end the Government makes the laws and the citizens must follow them.
There is absolute nothing stopping the US government from formulating laws that would silence Fred Phelps. Don’t be fooled into believing it’s about freedom of speech. It is not. It is about protecting religion.
Putting our sexuality aside. I think allowing them to do as they do is a smack in the face for all members of
the armed forces and their families / friends plus your country over all.
I wonder if a group of Muslims did the same, how long would they last?
I cant understand why a country that generates citizens who will go out and kill
a person of peace such as John Lennon, or a people of any political beliefs or
go to a school and kill fellow students (your children) or just plain old be sexually
driven serial killer, the government soon deals with such people yet they don't
bothered to deal with a person who spreads such hate as does
Fred Phelps and his band of followers.
Freedom of speech is what your told and yet when some silly student (teenager) from England sent an offensive email to your president. (reminds me of a Simpsons
episode.) He was hunted down by Scotland Yard so that the CIA could tell him
he is no longer welcome to visit the US and that ban is for life.
I also wonder if say the Mafia, biker gangs or a paedophile ring were to do as
Fred Phelps does, would the courts be as tolerant of them?
This will only end when you people descend on their local member of Government in mass protest and demand action. The guy is a nutter who should be locked away.
Moderator: we may need constitutional ammendment to ban protests at a private citizen and miliary, etc. funeral. doubt the house republicans would do this ...jake

I wonder how the Appeals court would rule if there were a day of silence for black people during Black History Month and the young lady wore a shirt that said "Be Happy, Not Black." Or maybe, on Cinco de Mayo - she wore a shirt that said 'Be Happy, Not Mexican." Is that considered protected speech or is it hateful speech?
Until we, as a society, start believing that being gay is NOT A CHOICE will will continue to face narrow minded people. Whether you are Black, Mexican, Asian or Gay... we were all born that way. We can no more change who we are than Blacks, and others, can change who they are. Just as we should not be prejudice against other races, we should not be prejudice against gays.
Moderator: I understand free speech. But, i wonder if the hate crime law that was signed by obama prevents such hate. I guess, since the US Supreme Court just ruled the westboro (anti-gay church) can protest military funerals, than people can wear hateful shirts. .....It is sad. .....jake
