Jake,
Although this maybe a daunting task, I believe you should take interest and pass along the word to boycott ALL of Apple's Products. For the current owners and the aspiring owners of the I-phone, this maybe as I said quite the hard sell but for Apple to allow an application, "The Gay App", which is supposed to help gay individuals turn straight in my opinion is a step in the wrong direction.
Apple needs to know that there decision to allow this app on their products will result in a backlash and I will do everything feasibly possible to get Apple to reconsider this fallacious idea! Can you please help spread the word Jake.
Much obliged.
JR Hopkins

Your Weight-Loss Solution: Close the Kitchen After Dinner

By James Beckerman, M.D. / March 20, 2011

Nighttime snacking is one of the biggest challenges that dieters face and it's often the last thing to go. People take solace in their evening cereal, scoop of ice cream, or occasional beer. But there's a reason why many people successful at weight loss avoid nighttime snacks – it's because those calories stick.

Eating at night is associated with being overweight. While skipping meals is associated with a 30% increased risk of obesity, eating at night increases your risk by more than 50%! The timing of your food intake (affected by skipping meals, eating at night and eating huge portions at limited meals), in addition to the calories themselves, impacts obesity risk.

This may have less to do with what you are eating than what you are doing after you eat. Meals throughout the day are usually preceded and followed by activity, which might be exercise, but is typically the more mundane activity of daily life. Night eating is followed by… sleep. Because calories are not being burned as quickly, they may be more likely to be stored as fat. Studies have also shown that food eaten late at night is more likely to raise triglycerides, which are associated with metabolic syndrome and heart disease, in addition to obesity.

It's time to set a closing time for the kitchen!

Pick a time. It could be 5:30 if you eat earlier or have young children, or it might be later in the evening if you work long hours. Either way, choose a cutoff for your calories and commit to it.

Another concern is that your ability to regulate what you eat in a given day goes out the window if you're eating at night. For example, if you eat a high-calorie meal for lunch, you may be more inclined to eat less during dinner in order to compensate. But if the bulk of your snacking and consumption of high fat treats comes at night, it's likely that your overall daily calorie consumption will increase disproportionately. Whereas skipping breakfast makes you overcompensate by eating too much throughout the day, cutting out nighttime snacks will likely result in an overall reduction in daily calories.

Other possible health benefits of eliminating nighttime snacking include less acid reflux, fewer asthma exacerbations, fewer trips to the bathroom, and better nighttime breath -- not a health benefit per se, but your sleeping partner might appreciate it!
