Re: [Peckers_Pics] Male/Gay Health-Discussion-PICS Hair Wars-Apr 20, 2012-Chicken or the Gays:Eating Chick-fil-A

Dear Group,
I usually don't read the articles. When I first join the group it was for the pictures. But as time went by I started reading this and that article now I read all the articles. I have become more involved in gay rights lately and found out about Chick-Fil-A. is against gay marriage. If you really want a chick-fil-a go to McDonald's theirs is just as good just put mayo on it. I haven't eaten at chick fil a in about 1 year now...if you take 8 dollars here and 8 dollars there it does add up.If everyone that believed in equality marriage did not eat there for one week how much money would they lose. Pick a day, gather everyone not to eat there and make a statement. See what happen. Just a suggestion. Thanks for your time..

Protest "JERRY BRENDA," editorial writer for POST INTELLIGENCER, Paris TN:
  • Jerry Brenda writes a weekly column called "Across the Tracks" These are hate filled editorials. In his Feb 28, 2012 editorial - he bashed Gay and Transgender children as being unnatural and placed fault on liberals. Therefore, we ask that all members check into the "PI "weekly, write on each of his articles your comment as follows:
  • Your First name, Last initial, city, state (Example: John Smith; Detroit, Michigan)
    (No email address required)
  • New Protest revised statement (Copy and Paste it):
"Jerry Brenda of Paris TN - should be fired for his prejudicial anti-gay, anti-transgender statements, dated Feb 28, 2012. A retraction should be made by the Post Intelligencer! Is Paris, TN (Henry County, TN) a place of Hate?"
  • Link to "PI" - Jerry Brenda's latest hateful Article to post Protest Statement (New Article, Revised 4/17/2012): http://www.parispi.net/articles/2012/04/17/opinion/columns/doc4f8d9f0e1a939979888509.txt / Or, feel free, to leave your own comment on his present article, if you like.

Kick Your Feet Up and Crunch

By Jorge Cruise / March 28, 2012

Since abs workouts can seem too labor-intensive at times, I thought I'd let you kick your feet up… on a Swiss ball, that is! This move is your basic crunch, but with a twist: Your feet are elevated, which makes it a little more challenging, but it'll give your upper abs a stellar workout!

Elevating your feet above your knees is beneficial for a couple of reasons. First, it increases blood circulation and prevents the development of varicose veins. And it gives you the perfect chance to lay back and relax. So make sure you kick your feet up at least once a day. Better yet, you can tighten your abs and promote good foot and leg health all at once with this easy crunch!

Step 1: Sit on the ball about 2 feet away from a wall, hands behind your head. Walk your feet out, and place them against the wall.

Step 2: Breathe slowly as you crunch up through a count of 10 seconds, using only your abs.

Step 3: Hold and squeeze for 2 seconds at the maximum tension point.

Step 4: Then return to the starting point through a count of 10 seconds.

Step 5: Repeat three times without resting. (Keep in mind that the range of motion is significantly shorter on this exercise, so be sure to adjust your pace.)

Take Action:
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations.Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?
  • Boycott Georgia for Execution of Troy Davis @ 11:08 EST, Sep 21, 2011:
Former US President and Former GA Gov. Jimmy Carter felt that TROY DAVIS should not be executed and deserved a re-trial. The Former Director of the FBI felt that TROY DAVIS Was Not Guilty! Do not drive through Goergia as it is dangerous. Do not fly via Atlanta. For your safety -Do not travel to GA. TELL YOUR COMPANY NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CONVENTION IN GA! "Georgia Executes Innocent People!"

Chicken or the Gays: Make a Choice About Eating Chick-fil-A
By Cord Jefferson /  Apr 19, 2012 /  Gawker

If they gave a Pulitzer Prize for waffling, this piece from the Washington City Paper last week might have won it. In it, food editor Chris Shott spends several hundred words pondering whether a person who is not a homophobe can in good conscience eat at Chick-fil-A, the Atlanta-based fast-food chain and purveyor of those dumbass cow ads. Chick-fil-A's nonprofit arm, the WinShape Foundation, has for years donated millions to anti-gay Christian groups like Focus on the Family, which once warned Americans, "[T]he homosexual agenda is a beast."

Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A's CEO, hasn't even made an effort to sooth his many critics. In early 2011, when it was discovered that a Chick-fil-A operator had donated free food to a conference dedicated to marriage under "God's design," Cathy responded by offering this paradox: "[W]e will not champion any political agendas on marriage and family. This decision has been made, and we understand the importance of it. At the same time, we will continue to offer resources to strengthen marriages and families."

Do you have any idea what that means? I don't. Regardless, Shott concludes that a progressive person can indeed eat at Chick-fil-A-they just need to find an elaborate way to support gay rights, too:
I like this approach: A friend of mine, Trey Pollard, offers a clever-albeit slightly more costly-way to offset the karma of his chicken sandwich purchases. He now matches every dollar he spends on food at Chick-fil-A with an equal donation to an organization that supports gay rights, either the national Human Rights Campaign, or an outfit right in Chick-fil-A's backyard, Georgia Equality.
That's not a clever solution, though. Clever would indicate some sense of ingenuity or wit. Giving money to gay groups after giving other money to enemies of gay groups is a plain old guilt management cop-out. If you'd really like to support gays and lesbians in a world lousy with Chick-fil-As, how about this tactic instead: From now on, don't fucking eat at Chick-fil-A if you are a person who believes gays are equal to you and deserving of equal treatment under the law. No equivocating and no buying back karma with pity donations to gay-rights groups. Simply avoid the chain for as long as it upholds its homophobic ties. Full stop.

Is this really that hard to do? Is Chick-fil-A so delicious that people are willing to ignore their most cherished principles in order to eat a couple handfuls of its sodium-drenched chicken wads? I haven't eaten Chick-fil-A in about a decade, but the last time I did, I don't remember it being all that spectacular. The meat was average and the buns were soggy, soaked through with butter and brine from anemic pickle discs. It certainly wasn't good enough food to get me to forsake my belief that gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry. Which is why, when I found out Chick-fil-A's Southern Baptist leaders believed otherwise, I stopped eating there and started eating at the thousands of other places that serve greasy, hastily made, inexpensive sandwiches.

I told a friend that he should boycott Chick-fil-A and he sneered. "Those guys are making billions of dollars," he said. "You think it matters to them if they don't get your and my eight bucks?" It's an interesting mentality many people have begun to adopt: Why bother fighting with the rich and powerful when, ultimately, they're going to remain rich and powerful?

For his part, Dan Cathy continues earning lots of money at Chick-fil-A, where the "Corporate Purpose" is still "to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us." And that purpose continues to partially translate to Cathy and his company putting their support and efforts behind "the Biblical definition of marriage." So important is marriage and the Sabbath to Cathy that he demands that all his restaurants close on Sundays so people can spend time with their families and God. When Cathy bows his head, I wonder if he thanks the Lord for all the liberals who will turn the other cheek and fork over millions for his wares come Monday.

A lot of people are homophobic, but not all of those people use their businesses to directly and outspokenly promote intolerance the way Chick-fil-A has. As much as you can, you should eschew known bigots' establishments if you don't agree with bigotry, even if that means swearing off the convenience of a particular brand of fast-food chicken. If you find that it's impossible to stop eating at Chick-fil-A despite your deeply rooted pro-LGBT values, perhaps those values aren't as deep-seated as you think.
