SeniorsSage, the nation's oldest service and advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender seniors, last week unveiled its online National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, underwritten by several foundations and a grant from the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
Joining forces with 10 other groups, including the American Society on Aging and the National Institute of Senior Centers, Sage has ambitious plans for this first-ever site. It wants to serve organizations for gay seniors, as well as housing and service providers, and to help older adults themselves. It intends to offer publications, a directory of organizations and programs, personal stories, interviews with leading experts, and more. The list of topics it expects to tackle is long, from health care access to H.I.V. and aging to transgender elders.
So far, the site's reach exceeds its grasp. Sage is waiting for individuals and organizations to say what they want and need, to help compile the directories and listings that will be useful to visitors, to fill in the blanks. It's a yearlong project, and you can join the effort at www.lgbtagingcenter.org.

The nation's largest gay rights group is going to war with the leading opponents of same-sex marriage, as gay activists work to quiet tensions within their movement and with their Democratic allies and redirect their energies on their actual opposition.
Human Rights Campaign and the Courage Campaign, a large California grass-roots group, have filed an IRS complaint against an affiliate of the National Organization for Marriage and are diving into the California Senate race with a new online ad campaign.
The National Organization for Marriage, founded in 2007, was a key player in a wave of referendums that beat back the spread of same-sex marriage from California to Maine.
"NOM has emerged as the No. 1 anti-gay force in the country. They are heavily involved in defeating pro-equality candidates this cycle as a tax-exempt social welfare organization, without disclosing their donors. This is why HRC has launched a campaign around outing who NOM is," said HRC spokesman Kevin Nix.
The offensive comes amid a season of finger-pointing and recrimination among gay rights groups and their presumed friends in Congress and at the White House. Some leading gay organizations are directing their ire at Democrats for failing to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act or "don't ask, don't tell," two Obama campaign promises. Other gay groups are also turning their guns inward at HRC, which they accuse of being too conciliatory to the White House.
With the midterm elections approaching, gays and lesbians are among the core Democratic groups whose enthusiasm level is in doubt -- and the groups attempting to energize their grass roots could have a bearing in the tight California gubernatorial and Senate races, said Ange-Marie Hancock, who studies sexual and gender politics at the University of Southern California.
"The LGBT community here has been very up and down," said Hancock, who described the anti-NOM campaign as an effort to energize voters for Barbara Boxer and Jerry Brown. "It's going to come down to turnout." ...
And NOM's Brown argued that HRC's campaign against his group is aimed at distracting from the gay rights movement's internal rifts.
"I imagine what they're doing is deflecting criticism," he said. "I think HRC's failures speak for themselves."
"Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
Remember: Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations and to Proposition 8 (California) to prevent gay marriage. The Formal Boycott began this past weekend. I stopped shopping these stores - even though I want a new washer/dryer and new clothes for the Fall. I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time! Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's is the right thing to do. Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being. They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp. Therefore, goodbye Target and Best Buy! The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions! What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
