Bob, you do have a point. I wonder if he lives in a vacuum up there on Capitol Hill or something. Yet it is true that he was born in a time that being gay was looked down on like it was a moral and social ill. I think that McCain will never overcome this and will loathe the transition when it is finally repealed. I have a ? someone said that if Obama decried an executive order repealing the policy, that it would destroy him politically. Can he do such a thing? If not, does anyone know why? For me, him doing that would solidify his standing as a person who believes in equality for all

John McCain grew up at a time when being gay was considered to be morally and socially wrong. Now that we are being accepted by enlightened people, he cannot overcome his delusions. Perhaps more to the point, he is a man who wants power and influence. He wants to be in the news. His stance is giving him tons of publicity and he is being feted by those who want to see equality in our country. I'm sure this is really feeding his ego.

He claimed his first international swimming medal at the 2006 Short Course

THE PENTAGON'S study on the consequences of repealing "don't ask, don't tell" swept away many of the arguments against allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve openly. And while Senator John McCain's strident defense of the status quo is disappointing, other responses to the report -- by top Pentagon officials and by Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts -- showed just how much sentiments have evolved toward tolerance.
Brown and McCain had both sought more input from military brass. The Pentagon report, released last week, was an honest look at the issue. It noted that a significant number of active service members believe that their work will be compromised by allowing gays to serve openly. But one contrary finding was noteworthy: Service members who had already served with someone gay were likely to view repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" as a non-issue.
That conclusion, coupled with assurances that Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen would implement a repeal only after proper preparation, apparently persuaded Brown to support a policy change Friday.
McCain, in contrast, keeps upping his own demands. After indicating in the past that he would take top military leaders' cue, he now argues that the proposed repeal should be put up to a vote of those now serving in the military. (Gates counters, "I can't think of a single precedent in American history of doing a referendum of the American armed forces on a policy issue.")
The desperation of McCain's proposal makes it clear that, even if opponents of "don't ask, don't tell" don't yet have the votes for repeal, they've nevertheless won the argument.

URGENT: Boycott Gold's Gym, Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations and to Proposition 8 (California) to prevent gay marriage. I would not purchase "Blood Diamonds," nor should a person / organization be contributing funds to both Hitler / Nazi's and the Jews at the same time!  Obviously giving money to the Jews and not Hitler/Nazi's was the right thing to do.   Hence, these companies violated my trust and well-being.  They gave money to my enemy who would terminate me from my job, deny me housing and send me to a Internment camp. Therefore, goodbye Gold's Gym, Target and Best Buy! The CEO's of these companies have been insensitive to our reaction and do not even comprehend their actions! What takes so long to "fire" these Neanderthals?
