A 3-in-1 Move: Flex Your Back, Legs and Rump

By Jorge Cruise, Diet and Fitness Expert / January 10, 2011

Are you constantly racing from one place to another, juggling family and work, with little time free for long, strength-training sessions? If so, then you need a time-saving workout that can tone all your problem parts, fast!

Here's a great multi-muscle exercise that zeroes in on your glutes, hamstrings and lower and middle back. Working all three areas at once allows you to spend less time in the gym – which means you'll have more R&R time at the end of the day! So grab your Swiss ball and try this reverse hyperextension:

Step 1: Lie facedown on the ball. Roll yourself forward until the ball is under your hips and your upper body is angled toward the ground. Place your palms on the floor about shoulder-width apart and pull your legs together.

Step 2: Breathe slowly and rhythmically as you raise your heels toward the ceiling, using your lower back and hamstrings. Raise through a count of 10 seconds.

Step 3: Hold and squeeze at the maximum tension point for 2 seconds.

Step 4: With straight legs, lower through a count of 10 seconds to the starting point, about 2 inches from the ground.

Step 5: Repeat three times without resting.

Thomas goes to Ellen back
GARETH THOMAS insists rugby is his focus after a star-studded pre-season -- both for Crusaders and Wales.

Jan 10, 2011 / The Sun

The Welsh icon appeared on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' US TV chat show after the story of him coming out as gay attracted worldwide attention.

He is also in the final stages of sorting out a film about his life and struggles of keeping his sexuality a secret for many years with Hollywood star Mickey Rourke.

However, anyone who thinks he may be distracted by the stars is sorely mistaken.

Thomas is set on proving himself in a second season in the 13-a-side code.

And he wants to represent Wales in the Four Nations after helping them qualify.

Thomas - who presented Ellen with a Wales shirt - said: "I was a bit nervous as it is my first time on a US chat show and given that they didn't know rugby it was different to anything I had done.

"But Ellen was very down-to-earth and normal and my story is not really about rugby. It transcends sport, so I think people can relate to it wherever they are from.

"TV work is something I'd like to look at in the future but right now rugby is my focus. It's hard to think beyond that.

"I will always be a rugby player and the sport will always play a part in my life.

"It's exciting times for Crusaders and I'm happy to be part of it and I will definitely be available for the Four Nations."

After making a high-profile switch last year, Thomas was introduced to the hard world of rugby league by being almost knocked out on his debut against Catalans Dragons.

With a full pre-season behind him now, though, he feels we can see more from the 100-cap union star in Super League. The 36-year-old may even play on beyond 2011.

He added: "This season I know the game a lot more. I don't feel same pressure that I felt last year. Looking back, it was really steep learning curve.

"As for beyond this season, who knows. Lots of rumours are flying around but nothing has been confirmed."

As well as appearing on Ellen's show, Thomas has held several meetings with Rourke and writers about the film and by the summer, the cameras should be ready to roll.

He revealed: "I have met with the writer and we hope to have the script nailed down in the next month or two.

"It's surreal to know Mickey Rourke and not many people have the chance to have a film made about their life.

"Ultimately it's about getting a great film made that gives out a strong message about my struggle, which millions are going through and also to promote rugby, the sport that I love. That means lots of hard work."
