JBL was pushed down our throats as a main eventer before he was even
over as a heel, winning the World Heavyweight Title 3 months after the
debut of the JBL character. His wrestling ability was always minimal
and his gimmick was a revamped version of the Million Dollar Man. He
also was not the first wrestler to come out in a car every week.
Alberto del Rio is a much better wrestler than JBL ever was and while
his gimmick is similar to a Mexican Million Dollar Man, he actually
has real heel heat in the 5 months since his debut.
A retired (not-so-great) wrestler beating up a rising great talent
would do nothing for WWE or Del Rio's credibility and those faces that
do beat him now.
(at least be a SMART mark)
