Health - Wellness - Exercise - Reflections:Resolution Kick-Start: Clean Out Your FreezerBy James Beckerman, M.D. / January 19, 2011Most frozen dinners, appetizers, snacks and desserts we shove into our freezers are highly processed and have too much salt, sugar and fat (they need to have these ingredients for longevity). Once in our freezer, they tempt us all month long, and we end up taking in too much of this salt, sugar and fat into our bodies. This month, when you do your usual freezer clean-out, remove temptation: Take out everything for cleaning, then only replace the foods that give you vitamins and energy along with all that convenience. Here are the keepers:Frozen fruits and vegetables
These are great to have in the freezer, as they'll offer convenient ways to stock up on vitamins and fiber at any time of day, whatever the season. Frozen vegetables can be thawed to bulk up any soup, casserole or dinner. And frozen fruits make great desserts, as well as sweet additions to yogurts, smoothies and cereals.
Microwavable meals that follow the "2-4-8" rule
Microwavable meals are wonderfully convenient and can help with weight loss - as long as they don't add too much salt, fat and sugar. As a rule of thumb, keep only those meals that follow "2-4-8": those that have at least 20 grams of protein, fewer than 400 calories and less than 800 milligrams of sodium per serving.Clean out everything else, and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to avoid the frozen snacks, appetizers and desserts that can derail your goals.
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck - Fox News. Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians.
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
And Now, Model Wars!

Whereas, who is the model that may inspire you to exercise and "get fit?" Warning: This may stoke you!Your participation in discussion of health / news articles - appearing in this message is greatly appreciated.

The Daily Dish - The Atlantic / Jan 19, 2011To my mind, there are two widely believed myths about the Tea Party. The first is that they care about debt. I don't believe this, because a movement that actually cared about debt would have run a campaign specifically designed to propose ways to reduce it. They produced no such plan. Immediately after the election, moreover, they did a deal borrowing a huge amount more and adding $700 billion to the debt by refusing to let the Bush tax cuts sunset - the condition for the cuts' original passage, remember? The Tea Party is not an anti-debt movement; they are an anti-tax movement, that came about during a period in which taxes were lowered, while debt soared. The second myth is that they are somehow unlike the Christianist right, and more tolerant and easy-going on social issues.
Again, I think this is wishful thinking. My own view is that they are hard-line Christianists in a different outfit - powdered wigs, muskets and red cheeks - and are outliers on issues of modernity - racial integration, women's rights, gay equality.I mention this because PPP has just done a poll on marriage equality, something they are going to repeat to test trendlines. There is almost no difference between Tea Party views and regular Republicans. 52 percent of TPers and 52 percent of GOPers want no rights whatever for gay couples, either in civil unions or civil marriage. Only self-described "conservative" Republicans have a higher opposition at 57 percent. Moreover, on civil marriage for gays, TP support is at 17 percent, compared with 42 percent support for non-TPers.
Tea Partiers and Republicans are more anti-gay than all the over-65s.
Bonus poll points: minorities come out strongly in favor of legal gay relationships with 79 percent of Latinos and 62 percent of African-Americans in favor of either civil marriage or civil unions. And yes, TNC, a greater proportion of whites oppose recognition for gay relationships than blacks.
