Health - Wellness - Exercise - Reflections:Expand Your Healthy HorizonsBy Jorge Cruise, Diet and Fitness Expert / January 20, 2011How many times have you tried -- and failed -- at a weight-loss program because it required you to give up the foods you love, eat the same meals every day and stay stuck in a repetitive exercise program? As you might have figured out, deprivation and a lack of new experiences are downright boring and not the key to lasting weight loss.
Don't choose ordinary when you can have extraordinary. Live life with a sense of purpose and adventure! Experiment with new foods and flavors; diet food doesn't have to be tasteless. Try new activities that challenge your body and your mind. Meet new people by signing up for a group fitness program. Look at yourself and the world in a whole new light.
A healthy lifestyle doesn't have to be accomplished in one leap. Simple, small changes add up to a whole lot more over time, so be sure to seek out one new experience every day. It could be as simple as trying a new vegetable or buying a fitness magazine for the first time. The more you learn, the more your world will expand.
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck - Fox News. Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians.
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."

Fort Lauderdale Pride Parade; June 20, 2010
Students packed Jedwood Place, just off school grounds, calling on administrators to allow the student organization. As first reported in the Herald this week, a group of seniors said that Principal Maureen Henry denied the club.
David Kilmnick, the chief executive officer of Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth, explained the struggles of the students to start a Gay-Straight Alliance Chapter at South. He commended seniors Joseph Kofler and Kelly Egan for their efforts in advocating for the club. He also called on Henry and Valley Stream Central High School District administrators to do the right thing.
Henry was not at the rally, but interim Superintendent Dr. Richard Marsh watched from across the street. Earlier in the day, he told the Herald that he and Henry decided to allow the club, and that the first meeting was to take place that afternoon.
"At this point in time, we do not understand the need for this demonstration," he said during the rally. "A Gay-Straight Alliance club at South High School would certainly enhance our strong extracurricular club program."
But those rallying for the club had a different take. Kilmnick said if a Gay-Straight Alliance was approved and a meeting was scheduled, students would be there. "There wouldn't be a couple of hundred students out here saying 'approve the club,'" he said. "They'd be inside at the meeting."
Kilmnick said he believes Thursday's rally will make a difference. "The student turnout was incredible," he said. "That just shows the tremendous support for not only Joe and Kelly, but every student here that may feel alone."
Junior Michelle Feltington said she was behind the Gay-Straight Alliance and noted that the rally will show administrators that students are behind the club. "I feel this will make a difference," she said.
Kofler said he was not expecting the support he got from students. With loud chants of "G-S-A" from the crowd, and others shouting encouragement from their cars as they left school for the day, he was convinced this would show school and district officials that the club needs to be approved. "It's absolutely amazing to see all of our student come out here and support this," he said. "I think the administration is going to have to give in and let this club, or else they're going to face the legal repercussions."
And More On This Story, Regarding Principal Henry:
Long Island HS Principal Says, I Called People Faggots Too, So No GSA for You
1/20/2011-by Paula Brooks / Lez Get Real
Student at Long Island's Valley Stream South High School say their principal, Maureen Henry, has denied their request to form a gay-straight alliance at the school, and, according to the students, gave as reason for denying their request as, she too called people "faggots" when she was young and didn't mean anything bad by it.
Joseph Kofler, 17, one of the students organizing the club said he was shocked by Ms. Henry's reaction and her lack of support and felt response was an endorsement of the bullying that takes place daily in his school.
"This school really needs a GSA and not because it's a 'gay club'. In fact it's the opposite of our goals, which is to bring about understanding and acceptance for all of our students. And I want to feel safe coming to school every day and this club will help toward reaching these goals" said Kofler, a senior at the school.
Kofler and other students say they have circulated a petition signed by more than 300 students and have taken their case to the Superintendent of the School District, Dr. Richard Marsh, in hopes that administrators can step in and assist both LGBT and straight students looking to create some safe spaces within their school.
They have also enlisted the aid of the organization Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) to help them, and are now planning a demonstration in front of the school.
"Ms. Henry must be living under a rock with her rejection of these students seeking to start this club, her appalling and homophobic response and her lack of awareness of the rampant bullying and suicides that have been taken place and garnering attention in the past year", said David Kilmnick, CEO of LIGALY. "There are over 90 GSA's that already exist in Long Island schools and by allowing a GSA for students to feel safer is not something revolutionary -- in fact, the school is way behind the times and these brave students should be commended for trying to make a difference" said Kilmnick.
An on-line petition has also been started at change. org to send Principal Henry the message that "calling people "faggots" is no big deal shows exactly why a gay-straight alliance is needed in a place like Valley Stream South High School."
