I don't know why we're saying that this is off topic when we have a political section on LGBT news. I am proud of my President, but this indefinite detention bill and the Keystone Pipeline (creating jobs in Canada instead of the US) business as well as pushing things like SOPA--Internet Censorship at its worst--makes me disillusioned with the Congress and the President if he chooses to sign the Defense bill. That wouldn't stop me from voting for him again considering the spread we have out there on the other side.
The problem sometimes unlike what George Clooney said: is that we don't criticize our own because we're so blindly following them. I'm sorry, but Pan African voices lambasted King Leopold's treatment of the Congolese but not Mobutu Sesko Sese's policies when he was simply the same as Leopold but was black. I don't want to be blindly following anyone, including President Obama. YES, the man has done amazing things DADT repeal, stopping DOJ's defense of DOMA and getting us on track from 2 wars and the deficit--which I think would be cut further if we limited Congressional pay, Defense and bureaucracy overhead with all these supervisors and administrators. I can't just be silent when I see something like that, yes I can't agree 100% with ANY president, but I'd rather support him if I agree 80%, which I do. These little things disillusion me, but my support outweighs that. I just can't wholeheartedly support the things I mentioned above.

You have hit the nail on the head when it comes to what the options are in a two-party system. "Having no other choice." And you have the right to object to how the President governs and the right to discuss your views openly among your peers in a discussion group such as this. Jake has become frustrated that people are looking for the objectionable among their allies and criticizing the actions of politicians who are close to us on some issues. That frustration is evident. The question is whether we want to spend time arguing among ourselves on matters that we actually agree on or begin building support for the best choice we have in a way that requires our choice to want to work with us after he is re-elected. Because we all agree that President Obama has not been a steady hand or stalwart advocate of progressive policies. His achievements are remarkable under the circumstances and he has recently found ways to demonstrate he understands what leaders do. He is flawed from the perspective of the left. He is part of the one percent and has been at least since he became president. Nonetheless, he is capable of responding favorably to the grievances of the 99 percent. He needs to be shown that the 99 percent insist on fundamental change as the price for their support. He needs to be given the task of correcting the ills of this country by the people. He needs to be told to provide the 99 percent with the resources they need to rebuild the economy. He needs to be shown we are united in our desire for honest, direct, firm action. He needs a clear mandate.
Show the President, the Democratic Party, the candidates and the rest of the world that the 99 percent are on the same page, just as we were on the same page as a nation 235 years ago, and fundamental, progressive change will be realized.

To the moderator, you send political information day and night. I am gay and gay people discuss politics. Politics to gay people is where we have acquired our rights. There are legitimate reasons to criticize Obama. In the end, having no other choice I will vote for Obama, but I have every right to object to his governing from the right. I thought this group was a discussion group?
Is there a party line that must be followed? Are you afraid of opinions that do not mirror yours? The reality is you and I agree politically 90 percent of the time. I just might be to the left of you centrist opinions.
I also have been a long time contributor to the moveon.org, actblue, and democratic candidates for President, and Senator. Currently, I have contributed to Elizabeth Warren's campaign. The only difference is I am not longer a loyal democrat. I find some democrats to be evil. Wayne
