As far as "butchest" is concerned (I hate that because "butch" meant a tough guy not just gay or lesbian either)
I have laways found it to be the straight guy's "radar" so he wouldn't end up talking to a gay guy or flirted with by a gay guy.
I find "gaydar" to be insulting an ddiscriminatory towards Gays.

I haven't been around the Gay areas in Toronto more than 2 hours (I'll explain when that happened below) for years but it used to be that everyone dressed similarly whether fems or masculine gays to a great extent, in Toronto anyway.
Last summer I went to dinner with a sraight friend of mine's Gay cousin in the main Gay area of toornto and things had changed: it was hard to tell who was straight an dwho was gay. Oh by the way I hate "Gaydar" its really a Queenie thing that's been adopted by straight women more than straight men.

This is an interesting discussion. I am not wedded to any idea, but I would like to throw out this thought, gay men as a group can be as equally
regimental and conformist as straight society. This is not to say, I do not love being gay and do not love being part of a gay community.
I especially enjoy the benefits of the gay community when it comes to feeling protected against the homophobic world. I guess what I would say is we have done well, but there is always room for improvement. Wayne
