Take Action:

  • Boycott "Whole Foods" Grocery Stores:  Their CEO is against Health Care Reform.  Also, Whole Foods is blocking unionization. Check out Trader Joe's instead. Due to the boycott & pressure from stockholders,  their CEO has stepped down; But,  remains on the Board.  Further,  Whole Foods has made no retraction of these anti-Healthcare reform comments & continues to support Republican agenda.
  • Boycott Exxon OIL. Do not purchase their GAS. "Exxon scored as the worst company for the LGBT to work for!"  In fact,  before Exxon purchased Mobil Oil, Mobile had same gender partner benefits. Well, that changed for those employees when Exxon purchased Mobil - as same gender-partner benefits went out the door! Therefore, as we have choices, we don't need Exxon.
  • Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck on Fox News as well as all of FOX NEWS!  Glenn has lied about Health-care, called our President a racist, and is anti-gay rights.
  • We demand immediate end of DADT. It is out-right discrimination.
  • Boycott Arizona because of their uncivilized anti-Immigration Law that encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities.  A remedy: Demand Republicans to  support Immigration Reform.  So Far, Republicans will not cooperate.  Are we all suppose to walk around with Birth Certificates in our hands?  Are we all suppose to "look 'White' or go to jail" (until all documents prove you are American)?  What if Arizona does not like Gay People?  Will that person be hastled for vertification of being a American?  Oh Wait, Arizona does not have laws protecting gay people nor rendering them equal rights. Oops! "My Bad" -  for not remembering.  I guess "Arizona does not like gay people."  Gay in Arizona and tanned?  You better have your papers!

Today's Health/Excercise Tip:
Sugar: The Not-So-Sweet Story

Got a sweet tooth? You're not alone. The average American eats more than 200 pounds of sugar per year! While tasty treats may make life sweet, sugar doesn't do a body good. Excess sugar gets stored as fat, which results in weight gain and an increased risk of heart disease and cancer.

Research has found evidence that sugar consumption interferes with immune function: When subjects were given refined sugar, their white blood cell count decreased significantly for several hours afterwards. Findings in other studies indicate a possible correlation between high blood sugar and endometrial cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, urinary tract cancer and melanoma.

So, ditch the dessert, and find sweetness in other areas of your life.

Gay guys really are thinner, study says

But lesbians are heavier than heterosexual women

By Linda Carroll, msnbc.com contributor / June 8, 2010

In a famous episode of "Seinfeld," Jerry complains that people constantly assume he's gay because he's single, obsessively neat — and thin. As it turns out, at least part of that punchline may be anchored in fact.

A new study shows that gay men really are leaner than straight men. And conversely, it also found that gay women tend to be heavier than their heterosexual counterparts.

Boston researchers determined that gay women were more than twice as likely as straight women to be obese, while gay men were 50 percent less likely to be obese compared to their heterosexual counterparts, according to a report published in the American Journal of Public Health.

After scrutinizing a health survey of more than 67,000 Massachusetts residents between the ages of 18 and 64, the researchers found that 14 percent of gay men were obese versus 21 percent of straight men. The opposite was true of gay women: 26 percent were found to be obese, as compared with 17 percent of the straight women.

The researchers also found that both gay men and gay women were more likely to be current smokers compared to their heterosexual counterparts. And gay women were more likely to have multiple heart disease risk factors than straight women.

Earlier studies that looked at health in the gay community focused mostly on sexually transmitted diseases and mental health, rather than on chronic illnesses like obesity and heart disease, says the study's lead author Kerith Conron, an associate research scientist at Northeastern University and a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health. "This may mean that we in the public health community need to come up with more tailored messages to reach these groups, just as car dealers do when they want to reach a specific target audience," she said.

Conron suspects that cultural differences might at least partly explain the weight divide. It may be more acceptable in the lesbian community for women to be full-sized, she said.

"Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
