I remember my Grandma was diabetic and when she had a Krispy Kreme donut she went blind for a few seconds, and what's worse was she was in traffic. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Mayors pushing for marriage: Good! A company and a city where you can legally marry and take advantage of the rights associated with such. Awesome!

Diabetes May Cause Vision Problems

Take a moment to gauge the health of your peepers. Unfortunately, eye and vision problems are a complication of diabetes. Having an ophthalmologist (a doctor who specializes in eye care) on your team is important. An ophthalmologist can tell if your eyes have been affected by diabetes and, if so, can treat them with laser therapy to protect your vision.

Because it saves so many people from blindness, this treatment is one of the great advances in diabetes care over the past 30 years. Laser therapy works best if it is performed at the first sign of eye problems, which is why regular visits to the eye doctor are important.

The American Diabetes Association recommends you have a complete eye exam with an eye doctor every year if you were diagnosed with diabetes after the age of 30 (or if you are younger and have had diabetes for at least five years). Try to find an eye doctor who has experience treating people with diabetes. Ask your health care provider for a referral.

  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

Mayors Across Country Back Same-Sex Marriage

Mayors of about 80 U.S. cities from New York to Los Angeles to Houston are backing a campaign to remove legal barriers to same-sex marriage nationwide.

"The more support we build in our cities and states, the stronger case we can make for extending the freedom to marry to loving couples no matter where they live," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles said today at a news briefing on the issue. Same-sex marriage is illegal under California law.

Legislators in Washington, New Jersey and Maryland are pushing measures to permit the practice, while voters in North Carolina and Minnesota will face ballot questions this year on banning it. Federal law doesn't recognize same-sex marriages, which are legal in New York, Iowa, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.

"Law-abiding, tax-paying families and their children deserve the same opportunities, the same rights and the same responsibilities afforded to every other family," said Villaraigosa, a Democrat, at the briefing in Washington, where the U.S. Conference of Mayors is meeting. He spoke in support of Freedom to Marry, a New York-based advocacy group that says bans discriminate against homosexuals and infringe on their rights.

Critics say the practice undermines the traditional definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Other big-city mayors at the briefing included independent Michael Bloomberg of New York, Democrat Annise Parker of Houston and Republican Jerry Sanders of San Diego. New York state made same-sex marriage legal last year, supported by Bloomberg and other city leaders.

"On average in New York City, 700 gay and lesbian couples are now getting married at the city clerk's offices" each month, Bloomberg said. "That means every month, hundreds of more parents and children are gaining the economic stability and protections that come with being a formal family unit."

The mayor added that the change has been an economic boon for the largest U.S. city. He has said that the new law helps companies attract top talent and draws same-sex couples as tourists, including some who intend to marry while in New York.

Same-sex marriage has been a divisive political issue since at least 1996, when Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act that lets states refuse to recognize such unions.

Efforts to make the practice legal gained momentum in 2003, when the top Massachusetts court ruled 4-3 that a ban was unconstitutional. In 2004, the city of San Francisco initiated a court battle by letting gay couples wed. Massachusetts became the first state to permit same-sex marriage in May of that year.

Since then, the issue has become the subject of ballot fights in states such as California, where voters passed a constitutional change to overturn a state Supreme Court ruling and ban the practice.
