Health, Wellness, Exercise, Reflections:Leave the Past Behind
By John H. Sklare, Ed.D, / January 30, 2012
For those who want to leave the unhealthy past times behind and start living a healthier life, I suggest that you avoid spending too much time intellectualizing and analyzing your past times and earlier behavior. This often results in what is called analysis paralysis. This is where you take no action because you are in a constant state of researching past times and analyzing the behavior. As the great Fritz Perls, the father of gestalt therapy once said, "Lose your mind and come to your senses."
It is not always necessary to dig into past times to change the future. There is definitely a place for therapy but I'm a firm believer in living in the NOW and addressing and experiencing the present moment. I have known too many people who feel that they can only succeed if they can find that ONE REASON from their past times that will explain their current state. For far too many, it's a futile lifelong search. I'm here to tell you that it is not necessary to discover the past to change the future. Focus on living in the present and making healthy choices - one decision at a time. Stop thinking and start doing. That's the ticket and that's your assignment for today!
Take Action:
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - Take Action:
political donations, corruption, greed, bribery, hacking! - Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?
- Boycott Georgia for Execution of Troy Davis @ 11:08 EST, Sep 21, 2011:
Former US President and Former GA Gov. Jimmy Carter felt that TROY DAVIS should not be executed and deserved a re-trial. The Former Director of the FBI felt that TROY DAVIS Was Not Guilty! Do not drive through Goergia as it is dangerous. Do not fly via Atlanta. For your safety -Do not travel to GA. TELL YOUR COMPANY NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CONVENTION IN GA! "Georgia Executes Innocent People!"

While clarifying remarks linking civil rights to gay marriage, Gov. Christie calls N.J. assemblyman 'numbnuts'
Monday, January 30, 2012 - By Jenna Portnoy and Matt Friedman / Statehouse Bureau / The Star-Ledger
TRENTON -- Gov. Chris Christie this morning attempted to clarify statements me made about same sex marriage and civil rights, but in the process called an openly gay assemblyman who was among the governor's detractors "numbnuts."
In calling for a voter referendum on gay marriage last week, the Republican governor said: "The fact of the matter is I think people would have been happy to have a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting and dying in the streets in the South."
In a Statehouse press conference today, he expanded on the statement: "The political climate in the South didn't give them the option to have a referendum back then," he said, adding later: "They wished they would have had the option, but the political climate did not permit it, meaning they would not win."
Christie signaled out Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer), one of two openly gay state lawmakers, as "numbnuts" for comparing him to infamous segregationists.
"Govs. Lester Maddox and George Wallace would have found allies in Chris Christie over efforts by the Justice Department to end segregation in the South," Gusciora said Thursday in a statement.
Christie also likened Democrats' reaction to his original statement to what he called politically motivated overreactions to his comment last year that the press should "take a bat out" on Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen). "It just shows how politically desperate the Democrats are," he said.
This afternoon civil rights leader U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) is scheduled -- along with U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) and Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver (D-Essex) -- for a press conference to discuss the original comments.
Lewis in a phone interview today called Christie's comment a "big blunder."
"I just thought it was unbelievable, unreal," he said. "He's a lawyer, governor and not to know that putting the issue of civil rights -- segregation and racial discrimination in the American south -- to a vote? We would have never made it during the 40s, the 50s or the 60s. Most of the governors except for a few of the states were outright segregationist. And most of these states in the old confederacy, people of color could not register to vote."
Christie said he had not been approached about meeting with Lewis, but would clear his schedule should the opportunity arise.
"Congressman Lewis is an American hero," he said, "and anytime he wants to come to New Jersey he will be welcomed with open arms because he led an extraordinary movement at great risk and sacrifice to himself."
Christie said he met this morning with leaders in the African-American community who, he said, understood his comments were not intended to be "racially insensitive." The breakfast meeting with representatives from local chapters of the NAACP and mayors had been previously planned, he said.
Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
