Health, Wellness, Exercise, Reflections:Tone and Trim Your Abs
By Jorge Cruise / February 10, 2012
Sloughing off that bulgy belly fat is top priority, and I have just the move! It's a core exercise called a Flat Lift, and it'll tone and trim your abs as well as strengthen your back and pelvis. Core moves are an integral part of any fitness routine. Good core stability allows you to do most any physical activity whether it's tying your shoe or swinging a tennis racket. Let's begin!
Step 1: Lie on your back, extend your legs and suspend your feet just above the floor. Rest your arms at your sides with palms against the floor.
Step 2: Exhale and tighten your abdomen as you lift both legs, creating a 45-degree angle between your legs and the floor. Note: Don't allow your lower back to arch away from the floor.
Step 3: Continue to breathe normally as you hold the move for 5 seconds.
Step 4: Lower your legs to the floor.
Step 5: Rest for 20 seconds and repeat three times, for a total of 4 repetitions.
Take Action:
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - Take Action:
political donations, corruption, greed, bribery, hacking! - Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?
- Boycott Georgia for Execution of Troy Davis @ 11:08 EST, Sep 21, 2011:
Former US President and Former GA Gov. Jimmy Carter felt that TROY DAVIS should not be executed and deserved a re-trial. The Former Director of the FBI felt that TROY DAVIS Was Not Guilty! Do not drive through Goergia as it is dangerous. Do not fly via Atlanta. For your safety -Do not travel to GA. TELL YOUR COMPANY NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CONVENTION IN GA! "Georgia Executes Innocent People!"

Optimism on gay nuptials in N.J., despite a likely veto from Gov. Christie
February 12, 2012 / By Matt Friedman and MaryAnn Spoto / The Star-Ledger
TRENTON -- Trenton will be packed with emotion this week as both houses of the Legislature are expected to pass a gay marriage bill, but leaders on both sides of the issue concede it will kick off a long political standoff between Republican Gov. Chris Christie and Democrats.
Christie has pledged to veto the bill, and Democrats say they're unlikely to quickly muster the two-thirds majorities needed to override him. Democrats also will ignore Christie's proposal to instead put gay marriage up to voters in a November referendum.
Gay marriage opponents say such a stalemate will put New Jersey's 10-year debate on ice for a long time. Supporters, however, will treat a vote by both houses as an important milestone in a fight they will continue to wage.
"I don't think there's one civil rights leader in the South who thought ending segregation would be a slam dunk on the first time out," said Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer), New Jersey's first openly gay lawmaker.
Steven Goldstein, chairman of the gay rights advocacy group Garden State Equality, said the group will celebrate if it passes.
"This week's marriage equality votes are like the World Series, the Super Bowl and a Barbra Streisand concert all wrapped up in one," he said.
State Sen. Michael Doherty (R-Warren), who opposes gay marriage, said leaders of the gay marriage effort are fooling their followers.
"It's unfortunate that they sell hope to their constituents they're advocating on behalf of," Doherty said. "I don't think it's too fair to the supporters of gay marriage to say 'We're going to get it done this time' when they know nothing is going to happen."
Lawmakers say there will be heartfelt, passionate speeches on the floor of the Senate tomorrow and the Assembly on Thursday. Gay rights advocates who wear blue when they gather in Trenton promise to fill the galleries of both houses. Gay marriage opponents who wear red say they'll rally and hold prayer vigils outside the Statehouse.
While Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex) have declared gay marriage their top priority, there may be some last-minute arm-twisting to get enough votes on a controversial proposal that failed in the Senate just two years ago.
Gusciora said that after months of wrangling he's finally counted 41 supporters needed for passage in the lower house. But he'll still be on edge until the Assembly has finished voting. "We still could have people that will get cold feet at the altar," he said.
If it plays out as expected this week, gay marriage supporters say lots can happen from the point Christie vetoes the bill and just before noon Jan. 14, 2014 - the last moment Democrats can overturn it.
Public opinion could shift further in favor of gay marriage, which polls show New Jersey voters support by a growing margin. Or, they say, Christie, already a prospect to join Mitt Romney's ticket if he wins the GOP presidential nomination, could leave New Jersey politics and free GOP lawmakers afraid to cross him.
Sweeney, who abstained from voting two years ago on a Senate bill that failed 20-14, said last week he sat out because he didn't want to be part of a losing piece of legislation. He said he knew many Republicans who had pledged support backed away because Christie was just about to take office.
"We have two years to do an override. We have two years to build support, to pressure people that really want to vote for it," Sweeney said. "I think we can win at the end of the day."
Patrick Brannigan, executive director of the New Jersey Catholic Conference, which is opposed to the bill, said a Christie veto will put the gay marriage issue on hold for a long time. He called this week's votes "anti-climactic."
"People know what's going to happen," he said. "I don't think this is going to be the front-page story for a while. People will go on to doing other things."
Sen. Christopher Bateman (R-Somerset), who said last month he was leaning towards voting for gay marriage, now says a referendum has the best shot at giving same-sex couples what they want, citing the recent polls. Last week, he introduced a measure calling for a referendum.
"It is the only option available to those who want to see same-sex marriage in the near-term, as Gov. Christie has promised to veto S1," Bateman said.
But Democrats contend gay marriage is a civil right that shouldn't be put on a ballot. They say a voter referendum could flood New Jersey with well-financed out-of-state campaigns against gay marriage that could spell defeat for the issue. Six other states and the District of Columbia allow gay marriage.
Even if Democrats aren't able to overturn the governor's veto, there's reason to keep the issue front and center as Christie prepares for re-election next year.
"I think they're thinking about using this as a campaign issue," said Kenneth Sherrill, a political science professor at Hunter College in New York who has studied gay marriage referendums. "It's a popular issue and it puts the governor in a bad light - perhaps one of the few issues that can be used to make him look bad with the independents and with educated voters."
Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported how state Sen. Christopher Bateman (R-Somerset) voted on the issue two years ago. Bateman voted against gay marriage in January 2010.
Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
