In this day and age, very few people consume all the nutrients they need from food. And no, ordering extra lettuce and tomato on your cheeseburger doesn't count! The sad reality is even if you eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, you may still be deficient in many important nutrients. That's because modern-day farming techniques have depleted some essential nutrients from the soil these foods grow in, making them less nutritious than they were in the past.

To counteract these deficiencies, I suggest you take a multivitamin every day. That's not to say you should give up on a balanced diet and let a supplement do all the work for you, but a little nutritional insurance never hurt.

  • Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - Take Action:

  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

'Don't say gay' bill troubles Tenn. school counselors

NASHVILLE -- Inside a middle school bathroom, the boy didn't know what to make of his classmate's roaming eyes.

So he went to see the school counselor.

Was the boy who glanced at him gay, he wondered. And if he didn't turn away, did that make him gay?

The counselor, who asked not to be named while sharing a real-life example -- both to protect the identity of the student and to candidly discuss the full implications of the situation -- answered the boy's questions as best she could. Her goal, she said, was simply to help the student feel comfortable and safe when going to the bathroom.

A bill working its way through the state legislature could make that more difficult, she said. The original one-page proposal, which opponents have dubbed the "Don't say gay" bill, would have prohibited public elementary and middle schools from providing "any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality."

An amended version, which a House subcommittee passed last week, trimmed the bill's sails though it's unclear how far. It said instruction would be "limited exclusively to natural human reproduction science" but left those terms undefined. The bill's original sponsor, Rep. Bill Dunn, a Republican from Knoxville, Tenn., said counselors still would be able to use the word "gay" and would have all the latitude they need to discuss "issues of sexuality with a student."

Sponsors in both the Tennessee House and Senate could not be reached for comment Monday. But lawmakers who support the legislation have said it would protect the rights of parents to teach their children about sexuality as they see fit, in accordance with their beliefs.

Meanwhile on the front lines, the counselors, who help students sort through perhaps the most confusing and complicated time of their lives, worry that middle school students with questions would have one less place to turn for candid help from adults.

"We have a lot of students who are kind of coming to terms with who they are, whether it's sexual orientation-related or not," said Leigh Bagwell, coordinator of school counseling services for Metro Nashville Public Schools. "I think you'd be hard pressed to find a counselor that hasn't dealt with that at one time or another."

Counselors wonder if the bill, for example, would ban:
• Suicide prevention posters that reference sexual orientation.

• Gay teachers from displaying or discussing photos of their partners.

• Discussions of sexuality with parents who ask about their children.

• Thoughtful exploration of episodes in which students are targeted with homosexual epithets.
Brad Palmertree, a spokesman for the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, also wonders how his organization would support students who might be bullied about their perceived sexual orientation.

"I think we would be limited in our resources," said Bagwell, whose group offers training to counselors.

The group's 48-page "Safe Space Kit" recommends that school staffers "ask questions that demonstrate understanding, acceptance and compassion" when a student discloses sexual orientation to them.

It also recommends that they offer referrals to other counselors, hot lines and youth groups.

In response to derogatory language and name-calling, the guide recommends addressing the situation immediately and trying to turn conflicts into lessons.

Suicide-prevention and bullying-response training is state mandated and often includes discussion of how to work with students who threaten harm over sexual orientation issues and who report bullying.

"We definitely want to create a culture where students are accepted and be able to be who they are without fear, intimidation or harassment," Bagwell said.

Pam Sheffer, coordinator for the Just Us program at the nonprofit Oasis Center, said uncomfortable and bullied students don't perform as well as peers in school.

"Middle school is just tough, period," she said. "Students can be really brutal."

High school counselors have called on Sheffer for advice about bathroom policies for transgender students and the formation of diversity-minded student groups.

"Young people want to talk about it," she said. "They have questions. They want to process it."

Some educators wonder what will happen to student clubs such as Gay Straight Alliances.

"We pretty much support kids to be whatever they are," said Rita GoForth, faculty adviser for the club at Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School here. "We support kids to ask the questions about sexuality."
