The CNN video was excellent. Mr. White is a courageous man speaking out against his attackers. It sounds as though he has put it in perspective and will learn and become stronger from his experience.

A Band-Aid Theory

Let me begin by taking you all back in time a bit. Think back to when you were a child and try to recall the very first time your mom or dad put a band-aid on you. If you're like most, you barely had a scratch, but it felt so much better after you had that cute little band-aid applied. There is just something about kids and band-aids. They always seem to parade around so proudly once they have a band-aid on. Today, what I want you to think about is not the application of that band-aid but the removal of it.

I'm sure you all know the theory behind band-aid removal. Ever since I was a little boy I was told that if you pull that band-aid off swiftly with one quick movement, you will minimize or eliminate the pain. If you try to pull it off slowly, however, it will pull at your skin and hair creating pain and agony all along the way. There lies the benefit of quick action, and it is quick action that I want to talk about with you today, because this same principle holds true when making healthy choices.

If you are to find the success you dream about regarding weight loss and healthy living, you simply must learn how to say NO quickly when confronted with temptation. If this is an issue for you, I suggest you start to implement what I am going to call the Band-Aid Approach to saying NO! Just as is true with the quick removal of a band-aid the same principle is also true for saying NO to unhealthy foods. In a nutshell, doing it quickly will minimize the pain and ease your discomfort.

So I suggest that the next time you are confronted with an unhealthy eating decision that you use the Band-Aid Theory as your defense. Instead of agonizing over whether or not you should partake in some unhealthy eating, just say NO quickly and be on your way. Avoid the agony of indecision by being decisive at those moments of truth and you will find yourself both happier and healthier at the end of the day!

  • Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - Take Action:
    political donations, corruption, greed, bribery, hacking!
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

Police arrest suspect in videotaped beating of gay man

Atlanta (CNN) -- One of three suspects in a videotaped beating of a gay man has been arrested, Atlanta police said Saturday.
 
Christopher Cain, 18, was taken into custody around midnight and charged with aggravated assault and robbery, said a statement from police spokesman Carlos Campos.

Three men were seen in the video shouting anti-gay slurs as they beat, punched and kicked Brandon White, 20. Police have identified two other suspects but they have not yet been arrested nor have their names been released.

White was attacked February 4 outside a convenience store in a working class neighborhood in southwest Atlanta.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed doubled to $10,000 a reward for information leading to arrests.

Meanwhile Saturday, community leaders and neighborhood residents rallied outside the convenience store in support of White.
 
"When you see something going wrong, you must do what you're doing here today,' said U.S. Rep. John Lewis.
 
White did not report the attack at first but stepped forward after a video went viral on the internet.

The video showed three men punching and kicking White after he stepped out of the JVC Grocery and Deli. The men, believed to be members of a gang called Jack City, yelled: "No f----ts in Jack City."

Later, the store's surveillance video showed White, dressed in a purple shirt and black jeans with a cell phone to his left ear, exit the store along with another man. As soon as they stepped outside, White was accosted by his attackers.

The surveillance video captured eight men standing around watching, two of them with video cameras in hand. One man lunged at White with a tire in his hands.

"If a straight person can walk to the store, I should be able to do the same thing," White said. "I could have died that day. They are monsters. At this point I am beyond mad."

He said he could not at first even bring himself to watch the video; he was so humiliated and embarrassed.
 
But after its wide circulation, White decided to talk to the police.
 
"Once they put it out there they set themselves up,"said. "I feel I was violated. The scars run deeper than anyone will know. The physical pain, I can get over that. My thing is: Who's to say they won't come after me again? Who's to say they won't kill me?"

FBI agents are also investigating the case to determine whether it meets criteria for prosecution under the federal hate crimes statute. White said he could not comment on that aspect of the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said her office is looking into potential civil rights violations based on sexual orientation. Georgia does not have a state hate crimes statute.

"The actions depicted in the video are appalling and unacceptable in our community, and we encourage anyone with information about this video to contact the FBI or Atlanta Police," Yates said.

Pittsburgh community residents said the corner where White was attacked is notorious for violence. They called for the JVC store to be shut down and asked for beefed up security.

Those who attended Saturday's rally said it was up to everyone to make sure this kind of attack does not occur again.

"This is not a one day campaign. this is not a one week campiagn, this is a lifetime campaign," said Cleta Winslow, an Atlanta City Council member.

Last year, the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs released a study that showed that hate crimes committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and HIV-affected people were on the rise in America.

In 2010, the coalition reported a 13% rise in LGBT hate crimes and documented 27 murders, a 23% increase from 2009.

State Rep. Simone Bell, who is openly gay, told CNN affiliate WSB TV that she hopes this case will pave the way for anti-hate crime legislation in Georgia.
