How good are you at recognizing and accepting imminent warning signs in your life? Do you immediately identify danger signs or counterproductive thoughts and behaviors, and then take appropriate action to remedy or counter the situation? Or do you tend to ignore these types of ominous indicators and just deal with them when an emergency is at hand?
Your answer could very well tell a lot about how happy and healthy you'll be in your future life.
For example, let's say that you're a smoker and begin to notice excessive coughing, shortness of breath or lack of endurance. Or perhaps it's your weight that has been slowly increasing and, as a result, you've become aware of painful knees, difficulty going up and down the stairs or walking through the mall needing to sit down. These simple examples offer warnings of much bigger and more serious things to come. They are similar to the speed bumps you encounter on the roadway.
A speed bump is a 3-to-4 inch high, man-made obstacle placed on the street to slow down traffic. It does this by first visually getting your attention and then, secondly, by forcing you to take evasive action and reduce your speed. In a similar way, we're also presented with speed bumps in our lives that warn us of potential for dire consequences.Life's speed bumps aren't tangible objects comprised of recycled plastic, metal, asphalt or rubber like the ones you encounter on the road. Instead, they're an entirely different kind of animal that consists of bodily pain, physical limitation and emotional discomfort.
If you're like most people, you react appropriately when you see a speed bump on the street and, as a result, slow down so that you don't do any damage to your car.
In life, however, too many people tend to ignore these indicators of future trouble until it's too late to deploy an effective avoidance maneuver and take corrective action.
I'm wondering how many of you reading this today are beginning to squirm in your seat as you find yourself identifying with this dangerous type of avoidance behavior.
Have you been given signs of trouble, in some area of your life, and chosen not to address it? Is there something you're either doing or not doing that you know isn't in your best interest, but you continue along the same path anyway? If so, stop ignoring these messages and treat them as you would when you're confronted with a speed bump on the roadway.This leads me to the primary point in today's message, which I will put in the form of a question: Is there something that you're ignoring in your life today that you very well know you should be addressing? If your answer is yes, perhaps you should treat it as you do that speed bump on the roadway. That is to see it clearly, acknowledge it, slow down and take evasive action.
Take Action:
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Quada friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Quada! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - political donations, bribery, hacking!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

Target sells shirts to help pro-gay marriage group

PAUL, Minn. - Two years after Target Corp. angered gay marriage supporters with a political donation that benefited a fiery gay marriage opponent seeking the governor's office, the retailer is now upsetting same-sex marriage opponents by selling T-shirts to raise money for a group working to defeat a gay marriage ban in Minnesota.
The Minneapolis-based retailer is taking heat in its home state, where voters will decide this November whether to put a gay marriage ban into the state constitution. One organizer of gay marriage opponents warned that their displeasure could spread to 32 other states where voters have banned gay marriage.
"Target is attacking traditional marriage, which is an incredibly misguided thing for them to have done," said Chuck Darrell, spokesman for Minnesota for Marriage, a group campaigning to pass the constitutional marriage amendment. "It's an insult to the overwhelming majority of their customers."
Target's move comes two years after it endured a backlash from gay rights supporters for giving $150,000 to a campaign group backing the conservative Republican candidate for Minnesota governor, Tom Emmer, who narrowly lost to Democrat Mark Dayton in a race that went to an automatic recount. The donation set off protests and calls for a boycott from a constituency that had seen Target as an ally.
Supporters of gay marriage see Minnesota as having the potential to halt their long losing streak in statewide votes.
The T-shirt promotion will raise up to $120,000 for the Family Equality Council, a Washington-based group that is part of a Minnesota coalition pushing to defeat the constitutional amendment. The $12.99 shirts will be sold on Target's website through June, or while supplies last. They come in four designs, emblazoned with words such as "harmony" and "pride." Singer Gwen Stefani designed one shirt featuring a rainbow and a cloud that says, "LOVE IS LOVE."
Target hasn't taken a position on Minnesota's ballot question. Spokeswoman Molly Snyder said the T-shirt promotion was organized by a group of gay Target employees and their allies. She said it is Target's second promotion to benefit a specific group. The first, during last year's holiday season, raised money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the sale of limited-edition plush dogs.
"Target is pleased to be able to bring our guests products they want while, in turn, helping support the LGBT community through the donation of 100 percent of the purchase price to the Family Equality Council," the company said in a statement noting its long-standing support of the gay community.
Another statement from the retailer notes "a broad range of strongly held views" on the marriage issue and urges employees to vote.
Family Equality Council director Jennifer Chrisler said the T-shirt proceeds will fund her group's work around the country, ranging from community building to political advocacy. She added that Target, a longtime sponsor of the Twin Cities gay pride festival, is now sponsoring Family Equality Council retreats for gay families in Massachusetts and California.
"I know and understand what a big reaction that donation had two years ago, and I think they have taken steps, serious steps, to show that they understood that reaction," Chrisler said. "But I really think this is an extension of the longtime partnership we have had and their commitment to family."
Minnesota for Marriage doesn't plan to organize action against Target because of its focus on the November vote, Darrell said. Instead, he is asking supporters of the constitutional amendment to counter the Target promotion by donating $12.99 on his group's website. He said donations are up since Target started selling the T-shirts.
Darrell also urged Target to get out of the marriage issue -- and stay out.
"Just get out of this debate and do what they're good at," Darrell said. "Get out of the business of trying to redefine marriage."
