Lifestyle change and healthy living is a very difficult process for most. And it is much more complicated when you are a mother living in a home where the family is not the least bit interested in your quest for healthier living. Sometimes you have to get aggressive when trying to improve the quality of your life and lives of those you love. If you are one of these people who are trying to improve the health of your family and you are the chief cook and bottle washer, I suggest you take charge and lead the way.
One way to make this happen and usher in healthy changes for your entire family is to be a good role model. A strong leader will always influence those around them. Perhaps you could begin by posting a sign in your kitchen that reads: THIS KITCHEN IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT! This will serve as a proclamation of your new healthy intent and will also put those around you on notice that change is in the air. I'm sure there will be some resistance, but good things always involve a struggle, and a healthier family is well worth the effort!
Take Action:
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Quada friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Quada! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - political donations, bribery, hacking!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

Why "gay marriage" is important

Since President Barack Obama announced his support for marriage equality, political pundits have argued over the motivation behind his decision.
Regardless of the motivations behind the announcement, the lack of federal recognition of same-sex marriages is seriously impacting the lives of LGBT Americans. As the president pointed out, nowhere are the problems of marriage inequality more apparent than with those who bravely serve this country in the armed forces.
Due in part to the Defense of Marriage Act as well as a failure of the Department of Defense to update its regulations, the military treats heterosexual military families completely differently from gay and lesbian military families.
Simply put, gay service members and their families are treated as "second-class." The Defense Department does a tremendous job of taking care of its heterosexual families; however, it completely fails to take care of its gay and lesbian military families.
Spouses and domestic partners of gay and lesbian service members are simply denied access to the support systems and benefits in place to help deal with the military lifestyle.
Because of this lack of support, these military families are sacrificing even more for their country than their heterosexual counterparts.
Consider the following examples from the American Military Partner Association:
Meredith and her partner of over six years (a soldier who has been through three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan) live near Kansas City and are a committed family with two children. While Meredith stays home to raise their children, she is denied recognition as a family member and therefore denied health care through the military.
Meredith said, "I can't tell you how many times I have to 'tough it out' with no medical care, nor how much I overpay for the exact same procedure because I am uninsured…or how degrading it feels to know that my wife breaks her back at work and I have to stand in line at a free health clinic when my wisdom tooth is broken, nerve exposed and infected as a result."
Sarah has been the committed partner of her Navy Sailor for their entire 15 years of service, including two deployments. Sarah has multiple sclerosis and has been struggling to deal with it for many years. Despite the fact she is clearly a family member of a U.S. service member, she is denied the same health care coverage that her heterosexual counterparts receive.
With such a condition, because health insurance is simply unaffordable to pay for out of pocket, they have to pay for any medical care they can manage to afford on their own. Sarah's partner has been a healthcare provider for the Navy for 15 years and has provided healthcare to service members and their families while her own partner has had to do without needed care and medication many times.
This is simply outrageous. While she serves her country, her country denies her family care.
The examples go on and on. All of our service members and their families should receive the support they deserve, not just the heterosexual ones.
To continue to deny equal benefits to gay and lesbian service members is a horrible disgrace to our great nation. Considering they put their lives on the line for us, the least we can do is give them the dignity, respect, and support they deserve.
Denying them the ability to marry the one they love is not the answer for a nation committed to liberty and justice for all. This is why marriage equality is important.
