I have for sure been a Dick Cheney detractor and diametrically opposed to his views on virtually everything badly i for most of his political life. I hate that he was one of the leading parts of the conspiracy to defraud the american people to get us into the Iraq war that killed and and maimed so many of our fellow countrymen. It was criminal and I am not the only person who thinks he committed war crimes for which he should be brought to justice. I don't belie e that he was ever a public servant - he was only ever thinking of Dick Cheney and how he could funnel money and resources to Halliburton to improve the wealth and power of himself and his damn corporate cronies.
Having said all of that, I do believe that many people are motivated by their own personal circumstances/crises. In this case, I am sure that he loves his daughter and wants only the best for her. He knows his daughter and her upbringing and I am sure this is causing his internal conflict about her being gay - he's not sure where her being gay came from but he still wants the best life for her. Therefore, it would not surprise me if he now supports gay marriage - even if he is not willing to publicly admit it. Although you never know - reading the family's statement you could read into it that they want the same rights and privileges (i.e. marriage) that any other american couple has.
Personal circumstance can make for changed viewpoints. We all can only wish Mary heney and her partner Heather well and a long and beautiful life together - married. Let's get Dick off his "ass" and into our "camp" (I can't believe I just said that!)

No time for exercise during the week? You're not alone. Millions of adults are stretched for time and can only spare a few precious moments to exercise during the week. And that makes weekends the perfect time to catch up on fitness. We call those people "Weekend Warriors."
Although fitness experts recommend exercising at least 30 minutes each day, research suggests that those who burn a lot of calories on the weekends and not during the week are still much better off than those who do not exercise at all. Burning just 1,000 calories in 1-2 exercise sessions a week (or weekend) can increase your chance of living for at least 10 years longer than sedentary individuals by 60%.
In other words, don't adopt an "all or none" attitude! Some is better than none, and fitting it in on the weekends is just fine.

The Wizard gave Dick Cheney a new heart in March.
If only he'd gotten courage as part of the deal.
On Friday, Cheney's daughter, Mary, married her longtime partner, Heather Poe. The couple have two children.
And how did the staunchly conservative Lynne and Dick Cheney, bastions of the Republican right, react?
"Mary and Heather have been in a committed relationship for many years, and we are delighted that they were able to take advantage of the opportunity to have that relationship recognized," the Cheney family said in a statement. "Mary and Heather and their children are very important and much-loved members of our family, and we wish them every happiness."
Which is nice, isn't it?
It's also more than a little hypocritical, of course, considering that Dick Cheney once supported an effort by the George W. Bush administration to impose a constitutional ban on same-sex marriages.
Then again, as vice president, he said he believed that the question of legalizing same-sex marriage should be left to the states.
And after leaving office, he had this to say in 2009 on the subject:
"I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish. The question of whether or not there ought to be a federal statute to protect this, I don't support."
It appears, strangely enough, that Cheney may be "evolving" on this issue, just like President Obama, who recently came out in support of same-sex marriage.
Of course, Obama caught immediate flak from Republicans for his change of heart. Had Cheney been running for office, I'm sure he would have joined in the criticism. That, after all, is politics. You might not like it, but you can understand.
What I question, though, is Cheney's courage.
Saying that same-sex marriage should be left to the states is simply trying to have your cake, by supporting the daughter you love, and eating it too, by trying to reconcile what you really believe with the tenets of a hard-right Republican Party.
Does Cheney truly want his daughter's marriage recognized in Washington, D.C., but not in, say, Virginia, where the couple reside, or in Wyoming, which he represented in Congress? Because that's what you get if you let the states decide. Nor would the state be able to give married same-sex couples the federal benefits that heterosexual married couples receive.
No, I don't think Cheney prefers those scenarios. I think he would prefer that his daughter, her spouse and their children have the same rights as all married couples.
