Do you consider yourself to be an honest person? For example, on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 meaning that you're always honest no matter what the ramifications are, and 10 meaning that you habitually stretch the truth or blatantly tell lies, what number are you on this honesty scale?
I ask you to consider this topic today because I read an interesting "Wall Street Journal" article recently on research regarding lies that children tell. Before I get to article, titled "How to Handle Little Liars," however, let me take a moment to briefly talk about the two kinds of lies that people tell.
One, which is considered the worst type, is lying to avoid personal responsibility. This is the most egregious type of lie because this deceit often causes real trouble and emotional pain for other people.
For example, you make a careless, expensive error at work, say you didn't do it and let someone else take the blame and heat.
The other type is what we typically refer to as a "little white lie." It's often centered around more mundane issues and is considered less offensive and harmful, as it is usually used in an attempt to avoid hurting someone's feelings. For example, while visiting a friend, she offers you a freshly baked homemade cookie that you don't like. Still, you tell her it tastes good anyway.According to a study from McGill University in Montreal, we're all pre-programmed to some degree to tell lies early in our lives. The study's lead researchers said that lying starts as early as age 2 and by ages 4 to 7, children are lying to avoid punishment or get attention or approval.
For all you parents, this will come as no surprise. I'm sure you've witnessed this behavior firsthand. Whether or not the child's lying diminishes or gets worse over time depends largely on two primary factors from the parents: how the parents react to the lying and how well they model honesty in their own lives and homes.
It's much more influential on your children if you're a "do-as-I-do" person as opposed to a "do-as-I-say" person.
Leading by example is the best way to get this important parenting job done.
Would you be surprised if I told you that adults lie an average of once every day? According to a 1996 University of Virginia study, 1 in 4 was a white lie and the rest were lies to make themselves look better.
I'm wondering if you're more or less honest now than you were as a child and what kind of role models of honesty your parents or guardians provided for you. In the most cases, I believe we're all honest people at heart. I personally find honesty an admirable trait and would always rather hear and speak the truth no matter what the consequences.With that said, let me leave you with two quotes from two famous authors about honesty that hits the proverbial nail right on its little head: Shakespeare's "Honesty is the best policy" and Sir Walter Scott's "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"

- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Quada friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Quada! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - political donations, bribery, hacking!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?

Accused Canadian Cannibal Luka Magnotta Pleads Not Guilty

Luka Magnotta, a Canadian porn actor accused killing, eating and mailing the dismembered body parts of his lover to schools and government offices, pleaded not guilty to five criminal counts including first degree murder.
Flanked by guards and expressionless, Magnotta, 29, appeared at the Montreal courthouse via closed-circuit video link for a hearing that lasted less than five minutes.
His lawyer, Pierre Panaccio, entered the plea on Magnotta's behalf and requested his client undergo psychiatric evaluation to determine his fitness for trial.
That motion will be decided Thursday when the court reconvenes.
Panaccio told Magnotta he wanted to discuss his defense with him and asked him call him at home.
"I'd be pleased to talk about this," Panaccio said, according to the CBC. "Okay," Magnotta responded, before being led back to his cell.
Magnotta arrived in Montreal Tuesday following his extradition from Germany. At the tarmac in Montreal, he was escorted off a military transport plane in shackles and escorted by a team of law enforcement officials.
Magnotta was arrested on June 4 in a Berlin Internet café, days after police believe he videotaped the murder of Jun Lin, mutilated his body and mailed his hands and feet to government offices and schools. Lin's torso was discovered near the Montreal apartment where Magnotta lived. Lin's head, however, remains missing.
Charged with first degree murder, Magnotta was for a time considered a priority fugitive by Interpol. He did not fight extradition and quickly admitted his identity when confronted by police in Germany, telling them, "OK, you got me."
