Today's Health - Wellness / Exercise / Reflections:NYC Health Dept's new HIV/AIDS prevention ad for gay men like a horror movie trailer [video]Metro Weekly / Posted by duy; Dec 16, 2010''When you get HIV, it's never just HIV. You're at a higher risk to get dozens of diseases even if you take medications. Like, osteoperosis, a disease that disolves your bones. And dementia, a condition that causes permanent memory loss. And you're over 28x more likely to get anal cancer. It's never just HIV. Stay HIV-free. Always use a condom.''Voiceover featured in a new ad produced by the New York Health Department. The graphic medical images and gloomy visuals and music are being criticized by some in the LGBT community. It is felt that the ad will stygmatize or ostracize people who are already living HIV/AIDS. (NYCHealth on YouTube)
''While it's extremely important that we continue to educate New Yorkers about HIV/AIDS prevention, the sensationalized nature of the commercial, including its tabloid-like fear tactics, misses the mark in fairly and accurately representing what it's like to live with HIV/AIDS.... It's our hope that the department will work with us to create a PSA that promotes safety and solutions, rather than stigma and stereotype.''
Jarrett Barrios, the head of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, responding to the NY Health Dept.'s controversial HIV/AIDS prevention ad. ABC reports that the ads are connected to a series of similarly dark ads associated with an anti-smoking campaign.

Take Action:
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck on Fox News as well as all of FOX NEWS! Glenn has lied about Health-care, called our President a racist, and is anti-gay rights.
- We demand immediate end of DADT. It is out-right discrimination.
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to get be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Further, Bill said that McDonalds would never show a gay friendly commercial in the USA. Imagine, Bill is comparing Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of senile - Sen. John McCain: because of their Hateful anti-Immigration Law that encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform. Further, Their Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and blocked Immigration reform! We shall hold the voters of Arizona responsible!
- NEW: Boycott Target and Best Buy for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations.
- NEW: Boycott Gold's Gym for donating loads of money to anti-gay candidates.

Asked whether he would bring legislation to end the "Don't Ask, Don't tell" prohibition to a vote before lawmakers leave for the Christmas holiday, Reid said he would bring the measure "before this Congress ends."
Republicans, who are largely opposed to scrapping the 1993 policy, will run the House of Representatives and see their Senate ranks swell when a new Congress musters in January, meaning the ongoing "lame-duck" session may be the best chance for years for repeal proponents.
"We are in session, if necessary, up to January 5. I hope that's not necessary, but that's the clock that my Republicans colleagues have to run out," said Reid. "I'm not going to let the country's work not be completed."
Senate approval would send the measure to President Barack Obama to sign into law, because the House approved the legislation by a robust 250-175 margin late Wednesday.
Most of the US public, Obama, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and the top US uniformed officer, Admiral Mike Mullen, back ending the policy, which requires gays to keep quiet about their sexual orientation or face dismissal.
They argue it's wrong to force soldier to lie in order to serve, while opponents of repeal, including US military service chiefs, warn doing so could undermine closely knit combat units.
The legislation envisions lifting the ban only after the president, the secretary of defense, and the top US uniformed officer certify that doing so can be done without harming military readiness, military effectiveness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention.
Gates has warned that, absent congressional action, US courts may weigh in and force an end to the policy before the Pentagon is fully prepared to do so.
