Today's Health/Excercise "Special" Message:
Phantom Pain

Our thoughts are at the root of serious kinds of emotional pain that humans endure. It's really our thoughts that add the invisible salt to our open emotional wounds. In a sense, most of the emotional pain we feel is akin to phantom pain. It's defined as pain that feels like it's coming from a body part that's no longer there. It's actually a post-amputation phenomenon where the patient can still feel painful sensations from an amputated limb.

There's something similar that happens to those who suffer from past emotional trauma. Even though the painful incident may have occurred years ago, many people can still muster up emotional pain through the simple act of thinking about it and focusing on it. If you find yourself suffering from this kind of phantom emotional pain, I suggest you begin to address and finally end this tormenting mental remnant. Talk it over with a good friend, or a therapist. Eliminating phantom emotional pain from your past will help you find peace of mind while allowing you to live in and deal more effectively with the present.

Gay Question Trips Colorado's Ken Buck on 'Meet the Press'
Politics Daily and AOL News / Oct 17, 2010

Colorado GOP Senate candidate Ken Buck called homosexuality a choice and defended his statement that a jury would find a woman's acquaintance rape claim akin to "buyer's remorse" in a debate with Democratic incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet on Sunday's "Meet the Press."

Democrats immediately pounced on Buck's debate statements -- as did Bennet.

During the 30-minute NBC face-off, host David Gregory noted Buck's opposition to ending the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays in the military and asked, "Do you believe that being gay is a choice?"

"I do," Buck replied, according to a transcript of the debate.

When Gregory asked if he thought sexual orientation was determined at birth, Buck responded, "I think that birth has an influence over like alcoholism and some other things, but I think that basically you, you have a choice."

Bennet, who supports the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," called Buck's views on homosexuality "outside the mainstream."

Gregory also brought up an acquaintance rape case Buck, the Weld County prosecutor, refused to file charges on in 2005. The accuser in that case went public last week with recordings of a conversation with Buck. In a 2006 interview with the Greeley Tribune, Buck said a jury might find the woman's complaint of rape against a former boyfriend she invited to her apartment a case of "buyer's remorse."

Buck told Gregory he didn't regret the things he said to the woman or the newspaper at the time. When pressed about what he said to the Tribune, Buck said he needed to explain to the public why he didn't prosecute the case.

"One of the reasons was the fact that she had regretted this relationship, and she had buyer's remorse as a result of the relationship that she had with this young man," he said.

Gregory asked Bennet to respond.

"He just used the language again, buyer's remorse, and [as] the father of three little girls, I just think that's the wrong way to talk about this kind of set of circumstances, especially when you're a prosecutor," Bennet said.

Politico referred to Buck's performance as "shaky, and said Buck acknowledged after the debate "I got that boot in my mouth again."

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee immediately e-mailed links to news stories about Buck's remarks.

Buck's campaign issued a news release titled "Buck Wins Latest Round on Meet the Press," citing Gregory's questioning of Bennet's record of voting with President Barack Obama 97 percent of the time.

The race between the two is in a virtual dead heat, according to a  Rasmussen Reports poll released Saturday. Rasmussen and
The New York Times both rate the race a toss-up.
