Rupert, I have to agree with Jake on this issue. The fact that the Salvation Army, stands outside every store imaginable during the holiday season, because the holiday season is when more people want to give, rake in millions of dollars of donations, and rather than spending the money on helping the homeless and those without food, instead, they use the donated money to hire lawyers to fight against gay individuals, all the way to the Supreme Court, all under the pretense that the money is going to help the homeless! It Takes millions of dollars to hire lawyers to fight cases for years, all the way to the supreme court! That's millions of dollars that could've been used to help the homeless, which is the pretense of what you are giving your money to them for in the first place! Personally, I see that practice as manipulative, and extremely damaging to a large group of individuals...GLBT Individuals! Basically, It's just like a pastor in a Mega church, Collecting contributions each week Under the pretense that the money is being spent On things the church is assisting in, Such as missionary work and many other projects. Now imagine that same Mega church, to collect their donations each week, and rather than spending the money on the projects they claim.... giving huge bonuses and raises to the staff of the church, putting millions of dollars in the bank to invest in the stock market (hoping to double or triple their money with quick, risky, high return investments), and losing all the money in a risky investment scheme or scam?! Or instead, their risky investment turns out to be a huge success, but they never tell any church members about the success, and pocket the money themselves, unbeknownst to the congregation. This Sleazy type of "asking for contributions", And then turning around and using the money for something different than advertised, is exactly what the Salvation Army is doing! Even worse, They choose to collect their contributions during the holiday season, when statistics show that people are more willing to give to a Group like the Salvation Army, even if they do not subscribe to that religious denomination! Like Jake mentioned before, there are many different legitimate organizations, that help the needy, whether or not the individuals being helped are gay! These other organizations certainly do not send a gay person off to a reparative therapy "clinic"! The word clinic itself, gives the impression that homosexuality needs medical treatment. This way of thinking, was ended by the AMA & Psychiatric groups, decades ago! Why on earth would we want to slide back to that horrible era, of treating homosexuals as experiments and psychiatric cases, for research such as was done at UCLA in the 70's, by a closeted gay therapist himself, "Rekers", who has single handedly made living in the United States a horrible plight for GLBT Individuals for decades and is still going on! Who single handedly caused the suicides of hundreds of gay individuals, probably many more that went unreported?! I wish you would reconsider your stance on the Salvation Army. I am an avowed agnostic and have no love for SA but thy do a lot of good work for homeless people. I cannot make gay rights the "be all and end all" of political causes.

Moderator: Rupert, we have already answered this. You ignore a lot of gay charities right in your state, perhaps city - that helps those that are gay, have HIV. There are other charities that help the homeless. Why don't you spend your energy on charities that include gay people by allowijng them to work for them? Gay People are undermined by the hateful Salvation Army. Perhaps you need to understand that Salvation Army is not the only cause for donations! Salvation Army, "hates" gays. Anti-gay Bachmann's are the very epople that support Salavation Army and believe that Gay Poeple can be cured of homoseuality. Again,. it is "Hate." You underatand how strong of word that is? "HATE." Salvation Army took donated money to go all the the way to the US Supreme Court to take away a gay person's right to work and they won. Salvation Army takes your donated goods, converts to money and has anti-gay lobbyist in Washington. Yeah, gay people are homeless because of the Salvation Army. Than they help us when we are homeless? That is hypcocrisy at the highest level. They are anti-civil rights and anti-gay. That makes my stomach turn! If we are unemployed because of them, we lose our health insurance. All this time you have wasted defending a company that is totally responible for causing gay teen suicide, gay unemployement, gays being declined from housing. Wow, are you joking? Rick Santorum 'taken aback' but 'certainly comfortable' signing anti-gay pledge

No surprise here -- GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum is on board with the anti-gay pledge that requires candidates to be faithful to their spouses, and "vigorously oppose" same-sex unions.
"The Marriage Vow -- A Declaration of Dependence Upon Marriage and Family," is the creation of "The Family Leader," an Iowa-based conservative Christian group, and its CEO, Bob Vander Plaats.
The pledge which includes 14 bullet points that signers must agree to, including opposition to any "redefinition of marriage," also likens same-sex couples to polygamists and adulterers, and states that homosexuality is both a choice and a health risk.
Santorum, appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, said initially he was "taken aback" by the pledge, but that he "certainly felt comfortable signing it."
Santorum is not alone in his support of the pledge. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), also seeking the GOP nomination, was the first to sign it, doing so on Thursday only hours after the pledge was introduced.
The pledge also included what critics have described as "pro-slavery" language. Its preamble included this passage:
"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA?s first African-American President."
But on Saturday, amid growing questions aimed at Bachmann, Family Leader officials said they'd removed the slavery language.
The Family Leader is a conservative traditional values organization headed by Iowa Republican homophobe Bob Vander Plaats, leader of the effort that resulted in the voter recall of three Iowa supreme court justices last November.
"We believe that the candidates' positions on core values, such as marriage, correlate directly to his/her moral stances on energy issues, sound budgeting policies, national defense, and economic policies," Vander Plaats said in a statement.
Vander Plaats says the vow of marriage fidelity doesn't apply to past behavior, but only looking forward.
