With out doubt more people are killed in the name of "GOD" than any other cause. The Catholic church being the oldest, directly traceable to Emperor Constantine the Great, has murdering it's enemies for about 1700 years. The reason the Roman Catholic church didn't denounce the Nazis was they had been working to eliminate the same groups for over 1000 years before the Nazis and not just Jews and homosexuals... They were working to eliminate the Roma (gypsies) the sick, lame, feeble minded, and ANY ONE that questioned their view of the universe...
My point is ANY "Authority" can turn most of ANY group of otherwise good people into a mob screaming lunatics ready to kill and maim ANYONE for ANY REASON. Because that is the way most people's brains work... If the guy in charge tells me to do something I do it...
The people that hid people from the Nazis were among those few Rebels that can think for themselves...

Niko, I heard of the experiments etc.
However, many things wre done out of hate for homosexuals and Jews that nothing to do with the various relgions although the Roman Catholic church did never speak out (from Rome) against the Nazis their excuse being they could help more people if they didn't!!!
There were whole towns in Italy that hid their Jews from the Nazis and many were hidden in monasteries and convents.
Pope Pius the 12th I believe was the pope at that time and in Rome it was one of the Vatican city officials (a priest or something)
who helphide many Roman Jews from the Nazis but on his own (I believe he told the pope but the pope said he could not help him!!!!!)
You have a point though.

Actually it is nature of most people to conform to role placed upon the by some figure of authority... The Stanford Prison Experiment of 1971 conducted by Philip G. Zimbardo is a perfect example of this... When directed to, by an authority, normal good people with do horrible things... Humanity has been breed to act that way since the dawn of time... Individuals that conform to the norms of the pack have a better chance of surviving and reproducing than the "rebel" that follows his own moral compass...

Sorry, if people do bad things whether they "claim" to be religious (which mweans going through the motions of belief mainly as many who claims to be Christians commit adultery or other sins for example) or not
they are "bad" people.
it is not religion that causes people to do bad things.
It is often a contortion of the religion, as in the case with the taliban for example, that may cause "good" people to do bad things, but in any true believer's heart no matter what religion they claim to believe in, they will not physically or menatally hurt anyone
I do see why and where you may be getting this from.
There are many hypocrites in many faiths.
