@Lynn: Religion CAN & DOES make people bad!! I've personally experienced it first hand, with my Farther than Right, so-called Christian, off the scale conservative, parents & younger sister! I'm 38yrs old, and they have nothing to do with me, my loving partner & now even treat my daughter horribly (who they always treated lovingly, despite their disdain for me), all because I'm gay! The things they have said to me and done to me intentionally, and now have nothing to do with me, would make any decent person sick! But in the overall scheme of things, it's not about me..... because I'm still alive! It's about all the other gay teenagers, young adults, and even middle aged adults, that couldn't fight back enough for themselves & committed suicide, or were killed by so-called Christian hate mongers (BAD PEOPLE) To the core! I'm aware there are people who think otherwise, but in my opinion they are living in a fantasy world! I Also tire easily from listening to people talk about history and religion, When in all actuality, They are talking about something they know nothing about!! (ie. Butch, I keep my mouth (or keyboard) closed most of the time to comments here but I totally disagree with your statement about "religious" people. Ask the Catholics complicit in the killing of hundreds of thousands of Jews and homosexuals during WWII. Consider the depth of depravity of the Inquisition. Consider the damning influence of the Taliban as they insist that everyone lives and believes as they do, just like the American Taliban - the Westboro Baptist Church our of Topeka, Kansas. Consider the rabid religious right who condemn the decency of a compassionate government. "Bad" people? I believe they have been so brainwashed that they believe what they are doing is right. Sorry, if people do bad things whether they "claim" to be religious (which mweans going through the motions of belief mainly as many who claims to be Christians commit adultery or other sins for example) or not they are "bad" people.
it is not religion that causes people to do bad things.
It is often a contortion of the religion, as in the case with the taliban for example, that may cause "good" people to do bad things, but in any true believer's heart no matter what religion they claim to believe in, they will not physically or menatally hurt anyone
