RE: [Peckers_Pics] Male/Gay Health-Discussion-PICS Model Wars-Oct 6, 2011-Boycott Georgia-Trump-TARGET-FOX NEWS-Salvation Army

I suffer from Depression's cousin: anxiety. Got to the point where I would have panic attacks in the grocery store or other public areas, and would have intrusive thoughts that repeated like a broken record. It took asking a couple of doctors, when finally a Physician's Assistant said, "well, let's try Paxil". Gave me back my life and made my life great.

Don't hesitate asking for medication for depression or anxiety - it's just like treating anything else like high blood pressure.

Sadness vs. Depression

By John H. Sklare, Ed.D, October 05, 2011

I receive a lot of messages from people who ask a very similar question: What's the difference between sadness and depression? I bet many of you have asked yourself this very question in the past. After all, we all feel sadness on occasion. However, depression is a totally different animal than ordinary sadness.

Sadness is a normal human emotional state that typically follows some kind of loss, separation or upsetting event. Depression, on the other hand, can often have no activating event at all, and is accompanied by a much deeper, darker and more intense sense of hopelessness, isolation and emotional pain. Even though sadness contains many of the same elements as depression, sadness is a feeling that passes as one begins to deal with the issue at hand. But depression can linger for months or even years.

I read an interesting quote about the difference between these two emotional states. In a TV interview in 2006 following the loss of her husband, Gloria Steinem said, "I realized that in depression, nothing matters. And in sadness, everything matters." Well said, Gloria!

If in doubt, however, the only way to truly know if you are clinically depressed is to get a professional opinion. According to mental health experts, depression is characterized by having five or more of the following symptoms on a daily basis:
•Depressed mood.
•Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or most, daily activities.
•Significant weight changes or decrease or increase in appetite.
•Insomnia or hypersomnia.
•Psychomotor agitation or retardation.
•Fatigue or loss of energy.
•Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt.
•Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness.
•Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, or a suicide attempt.
If you have these symptoms and think you may be suffering from depression, please make an appointment with your doctor or a therapist today. There is a way out of this darkness, but it can only begin with YOU taking action.
Take Action:
  • Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida! Further, Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - political donations, corruption, greed, bribery, hacking!
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass a LGBT friendly ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating money to anti-gay groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans?
  • Boycott Georgia for Execution of Troy Davis @ 11:08 EST, Sep 21, 2011:
Former US President and Former GA Gov. Jimmy Carter felt that TROY DAVIS should not be executed and deserved a re-trial. The Former Director of the FBI felt that TROY DAVIS Was Not Guilty! Do not drive through Goergia as it is dangerous. Do not fly via Atlanta. For your safety -Do not travel to GA. TELL YOUR COMPANY NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CONVENTION IN GA! "Georgia Executes Innocent People!"
And Now, Our War of the Fittest!

Student Alleges Principal Bullied Him for Organizing Gay-Straight Alliance
Oct 5, 2011 - ABC NEWS - By SUSAN DONALDSON JAMES

Chris Sigler, a 17-year-old student at Sequoyah High School in Madisonville, Tenn., tried to start a gay-straight alliance, but alleges he ended up being assaulted by the school principal for wearing a t-shirt in support of the proposed new club.

Chris is straight, but his 18-year-old sister Jessica is bisexual and has endured teasing and bullying at school. He told his family he wanted to start the GSA to provide support for gay students.

"I don't want to go to a funeral of any friends," he told his mother, Linda Sigler. The homemade t-shirt read: "GSA: We've Got Your Back."

But when he had a confrontation with Principal Maurice Moser last week, the high school senior was reportedly "shoved, bumped in the chest and verbally harassed" after he refused to take the shirt off in class, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which has taken up his cause.

Teens struggle with being different every day. How are you different? Submit a video to "20/20" to tell your story.

The ACLU, in conjunction with the ACLU of Tennessee, sent a letter to the school district today demanding that students' rights to free speech be protected in the classroom.

They say that Chris' efforts to start a GSA have been thwarted by the school's administration and his free speech rights have been violated. The ACLU alleges that Moser had previously threatened to punish students who circulated petitions about the club.

"They first started to try to get the club back in August, two or three weeks into school," said his mother. "As far as the shirt, he wore it one day and kids called him things like 'queer' and 'fag,' saying making a shirt for gays isn't right."

Chris went to Moser for support, according to his mother, but the principal allegedly told him that the bullies "had freedom of opinion, too.'"

More than 150 students had signed petitions to allow a GSA club, according to the ACLU. Students around the country have reported similar stories.

Last Tuesday, a teacher told Sigler to cover up the shirt, but he resisted and wore it again on Friday. Moser ordered all the students out of the classroom, according to the Siglers, except for his sister Jessica, who refused to leave her brother.

Both students allege that Moser then grabbed Sigler's arm, shoved him and chest-bumped him repeatedly while asking "Who's the big man now?"

Linda Sigler said that when she arrived, Moser was leaning over Chris, "right in his face." The Siglers filed a report about the incident that afternoon with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.

When ABCNews.com called Sequoyah High School, Moser's assistant referred reporters to the superintendent's office. That office referred the call to the district's lawyer, Chuck Cagle in Nashville. He didn't immediately return the call.

Chris was attending school today, but said in a statement provided by the ACLU, "All I want is to have a GSA at my school to help stop the bullying against gays and lesbians and their friends who support them. The shirt was a way to use my voice and show my support for the club. The way I was treated shows even more why we need a GSA here."

An estimated 33 percent of LGBT students in Tennessee regularly heard school staff make homophobic remarks, according to research from the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network. Additionally, 1 in 4 LGBT students in that state were punched, kicked or injured with a weapon for because of their sexual orientation.

GLSEN also said that few comprehensive bullying and harassment policies were in place in Tennessee.

"School staff are entrusted with making the safety of every student a daily experience," GLSEN spokesman Executive Director Eliza Byard said in a statement. "We are deeply disturbed by the reported actions of the Sequoyah High School principal who bullied a student for their support of legally establishing a gay-straight-alliance."

"We know a gay-straight-alliance can provide a safe and affirming space in an environment that may be otherwise hostile," she said. "Denying students the right to form this group is not only unjust, but unwise as it promotes a culture of exclusion. And the principal's irresponsible actions only compound the problem."

Students have been repeatedly told by Moser that the school does not have a GSA because they have been unable to find a faculty sponsor, according to Amanda Goad, staff attorney with the ACLU Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Project.

"There is a disturbing pattern where several teachers told the students they were interested, but when the kids go to the principal, they aren't any longer," she said.

Goad said she was "optimistic a lawsuit will not be necessary" now that the ACLU was talking with school officials about the legality of banning student free speech.

The Supreme Court affirmed first amendment rights for students in 1969 in the Tinker v. Des Moines decision. Three high school students defied their principal and wore black armbands to school to protest the Vietnam War.

The landmark decision ruled that, students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate."

Since then, the court has narrowed that ruling, giving schools the right to censor speech to maintain order and protect students from harmful messages.

In 2007, in a high-profile case known as "Bongs for Jesus" the Supreme Court ruled in Morse v. Frederick that Alaska public school officials had not violated a student's free speech rights by punishing him for displaying a "cryptic" drug-themed banner during a public event. The court overturned a lower court decision that cited the 42-year-old Tinker case.

But the ACLU said the issue is about more than free speech.

"All students deserve a safe and respectful learning environment," said Goad. "Harassment, abuse or censorship of any student -- regardless of sexual orientation -- is absolutely reprehensible as well as illegal."

"We think students rights can be expressed on t-shirts and jewelry," said Goad. "If we had to sue, we would be vindicated."
