Take Action:Health - Wellness - Exercise - Reflections:hCG 'Diet' Controversy: Dangerous Diet Or Healthy Hormone Treatment?
The Huffington Post / Dean Praetorius / 02/22/11
The hCG "Diet" has been stirring quite a bit of controversy after Dr. Oz took a closer examination of the already controversial weight-loss program.
While the wildly popular doctor said the treatment requires "further examination," many doctors don't approve. However, some dieters disagree.
The program, which has dieters consume less than 500 calories per day, is supplemented by "daily shots of a hormone produced by pregnant women called human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG)."
But the question of whether it works or not has raised a lot of questions about the "diet." While hCG proponents claim to lose up to 30 pounds in a single month, those results aren't unexpected on such a restricted diet.
Perhaps most importantly, the FDA deems hCG shots illegal and fraudulent.
From Dr. Oz's Website:
What about the hCG injections -- doesn't that make the diet more effective? No. Promoters of the hCG diet claim that when people are injected with hCG hormone they don't feel hungry even though they're not eating. The idea of using hCG injections to curb appetite was introduced over 50 years ago and has been carefully studied in over a dozen well-done trials. Every single well-done trial showed that the hCG injections were no better than injecting a salt-water placebo. In other words, people injected with hCG lost the same amount of weight as people injected with a salt-water placebo.
According to Dr. Oz, the shots don't even make the restricted diet any safer.
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck - Fox News. Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. UPDATE: Target has taken new actions to re-determine campaign contributions. However, at this time, the LGBT community has not ended its boycott. We shall keep you posted! Value your money and use it wisely! Don't spend money with business's that use your money that donate funds that hurt you!
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT - Chick-fil-a restaurants for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
- Remember David Kato, Gay activist - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay!

Israel appoints gay activist as labor court judge
22 Feb 2011 / by David Taffet / Dallas Voice
While Israel's executive branch has become quite conservative, it's judicial branch always has been very liberal.
This week, LGBT rights activist Dori Spivak was appointed to the national labor court in Tel Aviv, according to the Israeli newspaper Ma'Ariv. While other openly gay judges have been appointed in the past, his appointment is being hailed as the first appointment of someone who has advocated for LGBT rights.
Spivak, a graduate of Harvard, is best known for serving as chairman of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel. In 1997, he won a case in the Supreme Court that allowed Israeli television to air a program about gay teens.
Ma'Ariv, a moderate Israeli newspaper, opens its coverage of the appointment by saying, "The appointment of attorney Dori Spivak as judge to make waves."
But the concerns the newspaper details have nothing to do with Spivak's sexual orientation. They worry about his appointment to a court that has ruled in the past that a company doesn't have a religion so that forbidding work on Sabbath is not relevant. They also voice concern over how he might rule on cases brought by settlers in the West Bank.
"Nevertheless, controversial political views should not disqualify a candidate for judicial office," the newspaper concludes without mentioning anything about his sexual orientation.
All of Israel's LGBT rights have been gained through the courts, including pension benefits for same-sex partners of military personnel, recognition of same-sex marriages performed elsewhere and adoption rights.
"Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
