In the 50s there was a similar movement against a civil rights claim as there is
for todays gay marriage push.

That one was over mixed race marriage.

Its ironic to notice that the claims and fears tossed around 50 or so years ago
to object for a mixed race marriage are the exact, to the letter, word for word
same ones use today to object to gay marriage.

Its history repeating its self.

Yes that includes the claim about what will happen to the children of a gay
marriage, not new it was also tossed on the table 50 years ago for children of
mixed race marriages.

Yet once the law was amended and the community accepted it, after that it was a
non issue. SO much so that with in just a few years people forgot the battle
even happened. By the 70s it was what people did.

Maybe you guys in the US need to do some research on the subject and use history
to show how repeated and how flawed some of the claims are.

As an example.
Point out that the only children who ended up hassling the children of mixed
race marriage's were the children of the people who warned it would happen.
