Now, Target lost in court! David beat Goliath! AWWW! Return everything you bought to TARGET and tell them why! ....Boycott TARGET!!!!!

Take Action:Health - Wellness - Exercise - Reflections:Re-Centering Science in the Fight Against AIDS
05/27/11 - Sean Cahill and Perry N Halkitis, Ph.D., M.S. - Huffington Post
June 5th marks the 30th anniversary of AIDS. In June 1981, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published the first accounts of rare illnesses reported in young gay men in New York and Los Angeles in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Within a few years, the disease that we first came to know as GRID (gay related immune deficiency or "the gay plague") and now know as AIDS permeated all segments of our population, and many parts of the world.
Since 1981, medical science has helped us understand the mechanisms of this infectious disease and how to treat it. We have also developed a large body of social science to inform HIV prevention. However, our knowledge about prevention largely has been ignored. New medical treatments have saved or improved millions of lives. But we could save many more if we developed scientifically-directed prevention policies as well.
Much has changed in the last 30 years, due primarily to biomedical advances to treat AIDS. In the mid 1990s, after quarter million deaths in the United States, the maintenance of HIV disease was achieved through the development of effective antiretroviral therapies. These treatments, while certainly not a cure, have led to a rapid decline in AIDS-related mortality and have transformed HIV disease into a manageable, chronic condition. In 1981, a 20 year-old diagnosed with AIDS could expect to die from AIDS-related complications by age 22; today a newly diagnosed 20-year-old who adheres to treatment can expect to live well into his 50's and likely longer.
More recently, biomedical innovations have also advanced our prevention efforts. In 2009 an HIV vaccine trial in Thailand found that a combination of two vaccines lowered the rate of HIV infection by 31% in heterosexuals. Last year a scientific trial showed that HIV-negative gay men, taking a daily dose HIV medication tenofovir, were 44% less likely to acquire HIV. We've also seen advances in vaginal microbicides, with a South African trial reporting 39% fewer HIV infections among women using tenofovir gel.
But despite these significant biomedical advances, we enter the fourth decade of AIDS with a largely unabated crisis.
About 1.2 million Americans live with HIV/AIDS. Every year, 56,000 more Americans are newly infected. Roughly 50% of new infections are among gay men, and half are among African Americans, whereas by most estimates gay men represent only 2 % of the population, and African Americans constitute 13%.
Globally, 2.7 million people were newly infected in 2008, but for every two HIV-positive people who access treatment globally, another five are newly infected. Most of the 33 million people living with HIV around the world do not have access to treatment.
However, 2011 is also a time of great hope. This is because, after decades of HIV policies informed by fear and ideology, in recent years our national leaders have replaced these policies with ones informed by science. Bans denying HIV-positive people entry to the U.S. and on the use of federal funds for syringe exchange, have been repealed. Abstinence-only-until-marriage education--which numerous government studies found ineffective--has largely been defunded.
Under President Obama we have witnessed a renewed focus on HIV here at home. Last July, President Obama launched a first-ever national HIV/AIDS strategy to reduce new infections, improve treatment outcomes, and reduce disparities affecting black and gay Americans.
Scientific knowledge in the biomedical sphere has empowered us to make great strides in our war on AIDS. But the power of science has not fully been harnessed to reshape HIV prevention. Despite clear evidence that marginalization along lines of economic status, race, sexual orientation, and gender heighten vulnerability to HIV, prevention over the last 30 years has failed to address these systemic issues.
Condom availability and syringe exchange have been shown to reduce HIV risk. So too, interventions targeting the discrimination faced by gay men and African Americans will likely have similar beneficial effects. In fact, the CDC recently stated that our efforts to curtail HIV disparities should not focus solely on changing individual behavior, and must address the social determinants, which exacerbate the epidemic.
Science shows us the way. Research indicates that gay youth who are accepted by their parents are 3.5 times less likely to have unprotected sex than their peers who are not accepted, and that homophobia and victimization within families and in society contribute to heightened vulnerability. Structural interventions within families and communities to combat anti-gay discrimination and enhance the acceptance of gay people would help prevent HIV in this population.
Research also indicates that HIV-related stigma and fear of discrimination deter people from testing and seeking medical care, and that untested HIV-positive individuals compromise their own well-being and the overall public health. We must enact public education programs that destigmatize HIV testing and embed it into the fabric of people's lives. One model program can be found in our nation's capital, where anyone applying for or renewing a driver's license is offered an HIV test.
Social policies shaping HIV prevention largely have ignored the findings of social science. If we are to make advances in the prevention of HIV, our efforts must be directed by science in a manner similar to how biomedical advances have informed HIV health polices. At this pivotal moment and in the hands of an enlightened executive branch, it is critical that science direct the course of HIV prevention, and polices be developed to enact change within our social structures.
- Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck's radio show and his quest spots on Fox News. Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights. Update: Boycott Successful: Update 4/7/2011: Beck has been fired by FOX NEWS! Radio stations dropping Beck as well in several locations. Now, tell FOX to stop having Beck as a Guest.
- Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
- Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
- Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
- Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost it's case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
- End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
- Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
- Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
- BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
- BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
- Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
- Remember David Kato, Gay activist - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay!
- NEW: "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans? Boycott NBC! Boycott advertisers of The Apprentice and Trump's other business's. Don't shop at any bullding with Donald Trump's name to include Trump Hotels, Casinos, Condo's, Offices, Shops! The Donald has expressed extreme Hatred towards gays and blacks with his birther remarks and anti-gay rhetoric. Remember how poorly Trump treated Rosie O'Donnel? Now we know why he did that! It was hate against a lesbian as we now know he is biget. Unforgiveable! Again, Dump NBC because they air/re-newed Donald Trump's "The Apprentice"! Start Watching CBS Evening News.
- NEW: Boycott "APPLE." For the current owners and the aspiring owners of the I-phone, Apple allows an application, "The Gay App", which is supposed to help gay individuals turn straight. This is a step in the wrong direction.
This group is called "Peckers Pics." The English - slang definition of "pecker" is to pluck at the truth. To Russia With Love: Cops, Neo-Nazis, Corruption, And Courage At Moscow Pride
Queerty - May 29, 2011
Last we had heard, Moscow police arrested 18 gay rights activists and 14 anti-gay demonstraters at Moscow's gay pride this Saturday including DADT activist Dan Choi, UK gay rights activist Peter Tatchell, founder of the International Day Against Homophobia and the editor of The Dictionary of Homophobia Louis-George Tin, and co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network Andy Thayer. Choi reported slight bleeding and ringing in his right ear after the arrest. He and the other non-Russian protestors eventually got released from jail later that day, though the Russian protestors stayed in jail. Two women peacefully display their rainbow flag at the Pride March only to be quickly mobbed by police and dragged away.
Dan Choi's section of the march gets mobbed by police as well, his fliers taken. Choi gets carried away by men who cover his mouth as he attempts to yell "Glasnost!"- a cry for acknowledgement of the government's shortcomings.
Using his cell phone camera, Choi reports direct from the police paddy wagon moments after his arrest.
You can see a shocking photo gallery of the clash between protestors, Neo-Nazis, and police that shows LGBT marchers being attacked and Choi getting manhandled and silenced by police (here's another one full of police brutality). Here's some more colorful pics of other arrestees that we haven't seen on other blogs.
But what actually happened in Moscow? British gay rights activist Peter Tatchell has a good idea:
"We witnessed a high level of fraternisation and collusion between neo-Nazis and the Moscow police. I saw neo-Nazis leave and re-enter police buses parked on Tverskaya Street by City Hall. Our suspicion is that many of the neo-Nazis were actually plainclothes police officers, who did to us what their uniformed colleagues dared not do in front of the world's media. Either that, or the police were actively facilitating the right-wing extremists with transport to the protest."
"During the Second World War, Mucovites stood against the Nazis. Now the Mayor of Moscow is colluding with neo-Nazis. He gave the neo-Nazi groups permission to stage a protest calling for violence against gay people, while denying Moscow Gay Pride a permit to rally for gay equality."
He's more than likely right as even the Saturday live-blogger noted some collusion between the cops and the Neo-Nazis early that morning. In the pictures of Choi's arrest you can also see plainclothes police assisting in the arrest. Incognito officers or just very helpful Neo-Nazis? Hmmm
A national tabloid called Pravda (which used to be the leading newspaper of the Soviet Union and an official organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party between 1912 and 1991) ran this very tasteful picture of homos sucking face with Wetboro Baptist Church members behind them along with a disingenuous article about how the police were just trying to protect the marchers (awww, how sweet!). Mmhmm:
It should be noted that the detention in this case was, in particular, and a measure to protect members of the gay movement from violent towards them members of counter-rally.
"In the end, few people care about what two people do at home behind closed doors. But if they start to do it publicly - is in any case the offense. And even if they start loudly on the public informed about the details of their sex life, they are likely to be either in the ambulance or the police station. And then it does not matter what sexual orientation they adhere to."
Y'hear that, fellow Russian? If you act all faggoty anywhere but your locked bedroom, you should expect serious injury or arrest because that's just how things go. Luckily, John Aravosis from AmericaBlog directly challenged Pravda's slanted version of events by posting pictures of the police disturbing the peaceful march with violent arrests.
Openly gay singer Adam Glambert (we added the G because he's gorgeous, darling) actually performed in Moscow the day of Moscow Pride and tweeted, "So shocked that this happened today at the same hour and same city as I was performing in. #majordamperonthings." Dan Choi appreciated Glambert mentioning it.
Moments after his release, Dan began an online letter that he intends to personally deliver to Secretary Clinton asking the U.S. to condemn the anti-LGBT violence in Moscow and reaffirm the human rights of LGBT people in Russia and around the world.
Then yesterday, the U.S. government issued the following statement:
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
For Immediate Release
May 29, 2011
2011/855
STATEMENT BY MARK TONER, DEPUTY SPOKESPERSON
Concern about Freedom of Assembly in Russia
We note with concern that in Moscow on Saturday, May 28, a peaceable demonstration of Russians advocating for the rights of gays and lesbians, joined by international supporters, was forcefully disrupted by counter-protesters, and that Russian security forces then detained people from both groups, including American citizens. Some protestors were seriously injured according to media reports.
Freedom of assembly is a fundamental right all members of the OSCE committed to, including in the Moscow declaration and as recently as the Astana summit. As nationwide legislative elections approach, constraints on the ability of Russian citizens peacefully to gather and express their views will be closely watched in evaluating the integrity of the electoral process. We call on Russian authorities to work with municipal officials to find better ways to safeguard these fundamental freedoms.
Although he appreciated the statement's significance (the world is watching, Russia) AmericaBlog's Aravosis found the statement "problematic", namely because it buys that Russian police actually tried to protect the protestors instead of actively disrupting them.
When Choi saw the statement, he used Twitter to highlight the people they forgot to mention:"They left out Bisexual and Transgender. The greatest courage and willingness to meet violence came from Trans Russians."Most recently the "Edinburgh-based LGBT charity the Equality Network delivered a card of commiseration to the Russian consulate in Edinburgh regarding this weekend's violence at Moscow Pride."
Every gay and lesbian person who has been lucky enough to survive the turmoil of growing up is a survivor. Survivors always have an obligation to those who will face the same challenges."
