A Recipe For Discipline

June 14, 2011 - Men's Health - Martin Rooney

A few weeks ago, I was in England presenting in both London and Birmingham on the TFW System.  Going into the trip, I knew the 6 presentations over 6 days were going to be a challenge.  What I didn't realize was that this trip was going to test more than my presentation skills and mental fortitude.  This adventure was also going to test my Discipline.

In London, I had 3 amazing days presenting and then drove in hours of traffic to Birmingham for the BodyPower Expo, an event that would have over 20,000 fitness enthusiasts from all over the UK in attendence.  I did a push up clinic at the Expo on Day 4 which had me performing 150 pushups for a nice crowd and then I drove immediately to BJJ Champion Braulio Estima's academy for a 3-hour motivational seminar.  I got home at midnight, and then was up at 6am to start the Expo again.  I was tired from the jet lag, the workouts, the traffic and the lack of sleep, but this was, after all, the Big Day.  I would be presenting before hundreds on the Legend's Stage right before Bodybuilding Superstar Dorian Yates.  This was a highlight for me since I had followed Dorian's career for many years.

That morning, however, I found out that the Iceland Volcano had erupted.  The last time this happened, people were trapped in Europe for weeks.  Many of my foreign colleagues were skipping their obligations and bolting for the airport in a panic to beat the ash cloud and get home.  In the wake of the news, I didn't hesitate.  I was staying to do what I had agreed to do.  Why didn't I join the hordes leaving Birmingham when the volcano erupted or just cut my presentation short?  Because I realized – it's not what you've done, it's what you're doing right now that defines you.While others ran out, I decided to cook up a fresh plate of Discipline.

Ingredients and Directions

Discipline is made up of four ingredients.  When these ingredients are mixed and added correctly over the next 5 steps, you will have the discipline to achieve anything your heart desires.  If you are missing any of the ingredients, the Discipline you attempt to serve up will never "taste" right.

1.  Start with Responsibility
 
Add 1 Pinch of "Do what you say you're going to do."

Responsibility is a good thing to talk about.  And talking about it is the extent of a lot of people's responsibility.  But in the real world, you are what you do, not what you say.  Seems that a lot of us don't have a "to do list" but a "to blame list" – a really long list of all the reasons that we haven't done something, none of which include our own personal responsibility.  Throw the "to blame list" away and start accepting responsibility for your actions.

2.  Sprinkle in Accountability
 
Add 1 Dash of "Do it when you say you are going to do it."

Being dependable is an important trait.  You can only follow through on things when you actually follow through on them.  If you say you are going to do something, you have to get it done.  You are either accountable or, like most people, have a long list of excuses why you aren't.
 
3.  Drop in Some Effort
 
Add 1 Cup of "Do it to the best of your ability."

Effort is defined as force applied against inertia –even if that force is you!  Your best effort will never let you down, but it is a rarity for people to do their absolute best.  Pick the next thing you are working on and use that as an opportunity to go all out.

4.  Stir in Consistency

Add 1 Heaping Tablespoon of "All the time."
 
The people you're working with deserve the best you've got and your family deserves the best you've got – each time and every time.  To ever be known as responsible or accountable, you are going to have to prove yourself over time and with consistent action.

5. Whisk all the ingredients together, bake in an oven of desire and cool on a plate of passion.

When properly performed, this recipe results in:

Discipline: To do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it, to the best of your ability, all the time.

Munch on that one and see if this isn't the best energy product you can take for immediate results!
Take Action:
  • Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck's radio show and his quest spots on Fox News. Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights. Update: Boycott Successful: Update 4/7/2011: Beck has been fired by FOX NEWS! Radio stations dropping Beck as well in several locations. Now, tell FOX to stop having Beck as a Guest.
  • Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
  • Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers. Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well? Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
  • Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost it's case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • Remember David Kato, Gay activist - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay!
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans? Boycott NBC! Boycott advertisers of The Apprentice and Trump's other business's. Don't shop at any bullding with Donald Trump's name to include Trump Hotels, Casinos, Condo's, Offices, Shops! The Donald has expressed extreme Hatred towards gays and blacks with his birther remarks and anti-gay rhetoric. Remember how poorly Trump treated Rosie O'Donnel? Now we know why he did that! It was hate against a lesbian as we now know he is biget. Unforgiveable! Again, Dump NBC because they air/re-newed Donald Trump's "The Apprentice"! Now the Donald Claims the Long Form Birth certificate is a fraud. And NBC keeps this guy?

Michele Bachmann's Husband, Marcus, Triggers Cher's Gaydar

Presidential hopeful and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann's husband, Marcus Bachmann, has triggered singer Cher's gaydar.

Marcus Bachmann's views on being gay were discussed on a recent MSNBC segment.

In the segment, Marcus Bachmann, who runs a government-subsidized Christian counseling clinic, is heard saying in 2010, "We have to understand: barbarians [gay people] need to be educated. They need to be disciplined," and is seen dancing on a stage at a campaign stop with his wife of 30 years.

The Daily Beast contributor David Graham explained to host Thomas Roberts that "in Christian circles barbarians [are] people who are outside of the norms of behavior."

"He's allegedly participated in gay-to-straight therapy, he's talked about [the] homosexual agenda," Graham said.

The segment prompted Cher to message her more than 250,000 followers: "Just heard Michele Bachmann's OH SO CHRISTIAN husband talk about 'Gays' in the most UNCHRISTIAN way WTF!"

"But Boys please utube this asshole & tell me what u think … Cause My Gay-Dar is GOING OFF!!!"

"How a Christian can call Any of God's Children … I can't talk! WHO R THESE FKN People? C if u can find his views of what 2 do 2 "Gays'"

"Boys I'm not kidding! I'm listening 2 this >%~€¥^<<&&&& I'm thinking GAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAYGAY Without Style!" she added moments later.

Cher went on to defend gay people, then added: "I'm calling Kathleen about the Bachmann's! She's still a little in 2 Wiener (sp) but she will b all over these hypocrites!"
