Your Weight-Loss Solution: Serve Meals Restaurant-Style

It's hard enough to get everyone around the dinner table at the same time. Many families - in an effort to get everyone fed - streamline the process by putting casserole dishes or serving bowls in the middle of the table and asking everyone to dig in. Or sometimes family members are invited into the kitchen to serve directly from the stove, buffet-style.

Leaving the invitation to eat open-ended this way, however, will invite everyone to eat… and eat… and then eat some more, often well beyond a healthy fullness and into the realms of stuffing themselves.

Instead, a better bet is to "plate" the meals yourself, or serve them the way restaurants do: In the kitchen, dish out a single serving according to recipe or package instructions. (Go heavier on the salad or vegetables on each plate than the more fattening entrée.)

Walk the plates to another room where everyone is gathered and allow them to eat slowly and enjoy the single serving. Encourage conversation, take sips of water between bites and stretch the meal out to at least 20 minutes. If it's truly not enough, you (or other family members) may get up and serve more, but you'll probably be surprised: Most people only serve themselves seconds if the dish is sitting right in front of them, but when the dish is in another room, and they have ample time to digest the meal, they rethink their hunger.

Boycott Fox's Owner "Rupert Murcoch" and get him thrown in jail for illegal - political donations, corruption, greed, bribery, hacking!
  • Boycott Arizona the home of "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities. A remedy: Demand Republicans to support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores. Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech! STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost its case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores. A huge PR Disaster for TARGET! Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customer base. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays. Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard?
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
  • Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act). ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet. The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • Remember David Kato, Gay activist - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay!
  • "Tune Out Trump", Boycott all Trump Hotel, casinos, holdings, The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? After making racist remarks about Obama and recv'g public backlash, Trump decided not to run for president after NBC renewed his awful TV Show. How can NBC re-new the clown's show after he pulled such hateful shenanigans? Boycott NBC! Boycott advertisers of The Apprentice and Trump's other business's. Don't shop at any bullding with Donald Trump's name to include Trump Hotels, Casinos, Condo's, Offices, Shops! The Donald has expressed extreme Hatred towards gays and blacks with his birther remarks and anti-gay rhetoric. Remember how poorly Trump treated Rosie O'Donnel? Now we know why he did that! It was hate against a lesbian as we now know he is biget. Unforgiveable! Again, Dump NBC because they air/re-newed Donald Trump's "The Apprentice"! Now the Donald Claims the Long Form Birth certificate is a fraud. And NBC keeps this guy?

Bachmann would reinstate US gay troops ban

WASHINGTON -- US Representative Michele Bachmann, fresh from a victory in a key Republican test vote, said Sunday she would reinstate a ban on gay troops serving openly in the military.

President Barack Obama has certified that the US military is ready to accept gay soldiers, and the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is due to be formally repealed on September 20 after 18 years in force.

But Bachmann, a favorite of the ultraconservative Tea Party movement, said she would revisit the policy if she reaches the White House.

"The 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy has worked very well," she told CNN's "State of the Union."

"I would be in consultation with our commanders, but yes, I probably will" reinstate the ban, she added.

The ban was overturned in a law adopted in December 2010 that first required the top military officer, the defense secretary and the president -- who is also commander-in-chief -- to certify the change would not harm military readiness and that the armed forces were ready to carry it out.

In the interim, the Pentagon has drawn up new manuals and prepared the entire armed forces, some 2.3 million people who serve as both active troops and reservists, for the new policy.

Bachmann has raised the ire of gay rights activists amid reports that her husband's Christian counseling center offered programs aimed at changing the sexual orientation of homosexuals.

Six US states now allow gay couples to legally marry, but Bachmann said judges must refrain from "legislating from the bench" on the matter.

"I think it's more important that people have a right to weigh in on the laws that they choose to live under," she said.

Gay marriage is not legal under federal law as the Defense of Marriage Act only recognizes marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

The White House says Obama favors legislation that would repeal the law, which also allows states to refuse to recognize a legally sanctioned gay marriage from another state.

Bachmann was speaking a day after winning the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa, an unscientific, nonbinding poll seen as an early indicator of which candidates are likely to do well in the first nomination battles early next year.

She was closely followed by small government champion Representative Ron Paul, while former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty came in a distant third, a poor showing that led him to drop out of the 2012 White House race on Sunday.

Minnesota gay teens bullied by adults, peers, say activists

(Reuters) - Barb Schroeder knew about her son Alec's struggles as an openly gay freshman in rural Minnesota's Mora High School. But she didn't know about the knife.

Classmates called Alec names and pushed him around inside a portable bathroom during a homecoming football game in 2005.

"I would take a knife out, hold it and think about how quick it would be, and how I wouldn't have to go to school tomorrow and deal with that," recalled Alec Schroeder, now 20.

Alec's mother transferred him to a different school district in Minnesota, a state which has become a flash point in the battle over gay rights -- and not just because of the proposed constitutional amendment defining marriage between a man and woman that will go before voters on the 2012 ballot.

The Anoka-Hennepin school district, the state's largest, was sued in July by the Southern Poverty Law Center and The National Center for Lesbian Rights for what the groups call the district's "gag" or "neutral" policy limiting teachers from defending or advocating gay rights.

The district just outside of Minneapolis is represented by Republican U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann, a presidential contender whose husband owns a counseling business that has sought to "cure" homosexuals.

It is also located in what state health officials have declared a "suicide contagion" area because of higher than average numbers of suicides and suicide attempts.

Activists say gay teens account for an out-sized number of deaths and blame the district's "curricular neutrality" on gay issues, which critics say leads to marginalization and bullying by banning classroom discussion on the issues.

Anoka-Hennepin's superintendent, Dennis Carlson, defended the district's policies in a recent Minneapolis Star Tribune editorial, saying the district is not homophobic.

"We are advocates for all students," wrote Carlson, who added that sexual orientation can be discussed in class if it's "age-appropriate, fact-based and connected to curriculum."

Gay activists say the problems for gay teens in Minnesota go beyond Anoka-Hennepin. In a 2009 survey, 84 percent of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students in Minnesota said they had been harassed or assaulted in the past year due to their sexual orientation, according to the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Minnesota was in line with the national average in terms of the number of respondents saying they heard derogatory comments such as "dyke" or "faggot" from other students. But where the state stood out was in homophobic remarks directed at students by adults -- in that category, the state came in at more than four times higher than the national average.

"Unfortunately, it paints a very difficult picture," said Eliza Byard, executive director of New York-based GLSEN.

In Pine City, north of Minneapolis, city planner Nathan Johnson, 33, remembers hearing "faggot" and "that's so gay" from both students and teachers when he was at Pine City High School in the mid-1990s.

"That was really prevalent as I think is true in a lot of high schools," said Johnson. "It resonated with me."

Things have changed at Mora High School since Alec Schroeder attended. The district, located 70 miles north of Anoka-Hennepin, amended its harassment policy to include sexual orientation, calling violations of it an affront to the U.S. Civil Rights Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.

Mora Public Schools Superintendent Craig Schultz said in an e-mail, "Harassment, that I am made aware of, of any kind, is not will not be tolerated during my tenure with Mora Schools. This is my personal philosophy."

Schroeder remembers his time at Mora before the new harassment policy as "scary."

His mother said she now thinks, "If we didn't take him out of there, I truly believe it wouldn't have ended well."

Alec Schroeder said he put up with the bullying because he was a teenager confused by conflicting emotions.

"You thought that you deserved it because no one else was that way," said Schroeder.

"As you get older, you accept it and realize that you aren't the only one," said Schroeder, who is now working toward a nursing degree and performing in theater.
