Hey there everyone :-) However, although there are still naked dancing men on floats, in gay parades around the world, I don't feel as irritated about our portrayal of our community as I used to! Mainly because our community has been able and successful in breaking the barrier between us, and mainstream, straight America & the world! Closeted gay teenagers and other closeted gay young adults, are much more likely to admit that they are gay and not be ashamed of it! I believe this is because our community has shown a huge difference and appearance within political activism, which gets more Media coverage and attention than a naked dancing man in a gay parade! I do not however, believe that we as a gay community are using the word "hate groups" & standing up for our rights as american citizens, which just causes a backlash with the far right conservitive evangelical hate groups! Those same groups, and now many more, have suddenly decided to fight the gay community as hard as possible! These individuals & hate groups, are passing state & Federal laws that are unconstitutional. Since President Obama took office, We as a gay community have seen him directly give Executive orders to various Federal Government Departments, to not pursue DOMA & successfully repeal DADT! He's also been very Instrumental behind the scenes in getting states to pass gay marriage, just like the most recent state of New York! The hate groups that are referred to in that way, like Focus on the Family, originally started by Dr. James Dobson, PhD, As well as other well known hate groups against same sex marriage, I believe that they deserve every bit of Hardships from the gay community that they are getting! They have chosen to spend millions of dollars on anti gay rhetoric and laws! Gay marriage is NOT the only "issues", that these groups have towards us as gay people! They DO NOT like gay people, feel uncomfortable around gay people, and have poured Millions of Dollars into making America a VERY hard place for gay people to live, work & operate in a normal & easy manner, compared to our "straight" counterparts! What's more shocking is that the individual leaders of these hate groups, are usually the ones we see in the media, that have been caught in some sort of gay sex scandal! These same individuals are the ones leading the charge against gay lifestyles in general, single handedly making it very difficult for gay individuals in this country! So I ask, why is it wrong to call a spade a spade? The answer to that is "nothing"! This is not just a group of people that disagree about same sex marriage, They spew hate verbally, emotionally and physically! They are responsible for the deaths and suicides of many gay individuals, including their own christian members of their churches, which make up most of the gay teenage & adult suicides we hear about! That is their dirty little secret! Of course the gay community is going to get backlash from their hate group opposition, that's a given! But it doesn't change who & what those groups really are, and what they really believe in & are "TAUGHT"! Hate and racism, among other types of attributes, Are a learned & taught ideal & attitude, making an individual who they are! So I do not think that calling these groups of people, who are opposed to same sex marriage, hate groups, is wrong or a bad idea or philosophy! I grew up in this sort of environment, thinking everyday that I was going to hell because I knew I was gay inside! I was constantly terrified of someone finding out that I was gay! I lived a life of FEAR and a life of Lies about who I "Really" was inside as a GAY Young Teen & Young Adult! This type of covering up of ones True Identity, was extremely difficult for me emotionally and psychologically......keeping it all hidden away, locked with a key & throwing the key so far away, that there would never be any way my true sexuality would come out! By calling them out and exposing their own hypocrisy to the world, even by using the term "hate groups", is exactly what needs to continue to be done and said, LOUD & CLEAR! These individual's that make up these hate groups, Shouldn't be allowed to hide behind their religion, Like the little man behind the curtain on the Wizard of Oz! Exposing these hate groups for who they really are, and for what they are really doing to gay "human beings", is the right thing to do!
