Your Pre-Cut Produce May Be Missing Something

Is pre-cut produce as good for you as its whole counterpart? Maybe not. If you're worried about losing nutrients by buying fresh-cut produce, you may not be entirely off-base. Fruits and vegetables are very sensitive to light, heat, air, and time, and any of these factors can contribute to nutrient loss and the demise of antioxidants. If you want the freshest pre-cut produce, look for the "use by" date. But keep in mind these dates are geared more toward spoilage, probably not nutrient loss.

To be safe, you can always cut and store your own produce at home. Slice fruits and veggies into larger pieces in order to expose less surface area to the process of oxygenation (that annoying thing that turns your apples brown and can destroy nutrients and precious antioxidants in your food). Store freshly cut fruits and veggies in airtight, opaque containers to avoid exposing them to air and light. And keep them as cold as possible in the fridge without actually freezing them. Gobble up fresh foods quickly – a fruit or vegetable's original nutrient, phytochemical and antioxidant content will last up to 5-7 days in the fridge.

To be on the safe side, use cut produce within three days. Preparing your own pre-cut produce at home takes some initiative on your part, but if you want the best out of your foods, it's well worth it.

Gay Rights Activist Plans To Boycott Donald Trump: 'Unconscionable That He Could Exist In NYC'

The Donald's not even running yet, but he's already losing support at home in New York.

New York gay activist Allen Roskoff, who co-authored the nation's first gay rights bill in the 1970s, says recent comments by Donald Trump to the Des Moines Register about gay marriage have left Roskoff pondering a boycott of Trump's businesses.

"He's crossed the Rubicon," Roskoff tells the New York Daily News. "It's unconscionable that he could exist in New York City."

In an interview with the Register, Trump was asked whether he supports "allowing same-sex couples to marry:"

Trump said "no," but didn't stop there. When Beaumont asked whether gay couples should have access to "the same benefits as married couples," the mogul initially replied that his attitude on the issue was not yet "fully formed."

After thinking about it for a moment, however, Trump said: "As of this moment, I would say no and no" to gay marriage and civil benefits.

For Roskoff, the answer shows "he's an extreme bigot," and deserves a boycott, which would target advertisers on Trump's NBC show Celebrity Apprentice as well as Trump-branded casinos and apartment buildings in New York.

But, it covers the LGBT community and includes updates on Health insurance; LGBT boycott list; Westboro Church; and the end of DADT, etc...Also, updates with state gov't war against unions and people with disabilities.  The group is created for you!  There are gay teen suicides going on. There are Hate crimes against gay people.  There are gays who are fired over their sexuality.  There are gay people who died for our cause! You always reserve the right to remove yourself from all my groups.  I have done everything I can and now it is time for you to step up!  Join Now!
