So true, I lived in Manhattan for many years but was always surprised by the conservative nature of so many there.  I so hope this passes.

Although I don't personally live in New York but have visited it many times, while visiting my partners daughter, as well as taking holidays there, I would think that New York City alone, would have enough liberal backing & "clout" (for the lack of a better word) to not only initiate & support gay marriage, but would hold quite a bit of control in nudging "hold outs", no matter what part of the state they come from, especially one's in their own backyard like Long Island?! Also, with New York having an awesome Governor like Cuomo definitely doing his own part "FO SHO", in supporting gay marriage & nudging those pesky "hold outs" to show the Nation that New York and especially NYC, probably THE MOST popular and well known City in the world, MUST & NEEDS to continue being a leader in this country and around the world!! I have a friend who lives & works in NYC, as a fairly well known photographer, there & in Tinseltown (Hollywood CA) & is newly married to a Lawyer in Boston Mass. Their new "gay marriage" is legal & recognized in Massachusetts, but NOT in New York! Neither of them are able to move to one or the other's city in which they reside, due to their successful careers that they hold dearly in each city?! They had to have special legal documents drawn up (which was an added expense that "straight" couples get the privilege of avoiding), just to receive somewhat of a "normalcy" in their marriage, so that when they are both in NYC at their place together, they will at least have "some" legal protections if and when needed!! To all of my friends in New York & NYC, whether in this group or not, & to EVERY GAY MEMBER of this group living in New York..... just know that we as gay individuals (Family) from all over the country, are rooting for you ALL & Standing in Solidarity & in the gap, for you to enjoy TRUE FREEDOM & CIVIL LIBERTIES that we ALL deserve!
