I couldn't agree with you more and before he made his statement today I was leaning heavily toward him just keeping silent on this issue until after the election. I fully understood how so many of us emotionally wanted (needed) to hear President Obama openly support Gay Marriage but I understood that it probably wasn't the smartest thing for him to do (politically). I'm sure that's why he didn't speak out sooner. Now we have to worry, as he does, about how much his very public and unwavering statement of support for EQUAL RIGHTS for Gays and Lesbians will play out during the election. You are so very right about us needing him to win this election and keep someone like Romney out of the White House. That would be a disaster and set us back so much farther than before a President had the balls to say what Barack Obama said today. His statement will fire up the pundits and the base on the right, and sadly, it will probably cost him some level of support from some of his own constituents. I suspect that the assinine results from North Carolina yesterday played a big role in President Obama's decision to take this major step today. It's been a long time since a President and/or Presidential candidate has shown the courage to say and do what he/she knew to be the right thing even though it is likely to cost critical votes. That's why we all need to support OUR President and do it now. Shame on any of us who don't support Barack Obama in this hour of need after he has supported us like no other President in the history of this country has ever done before.
