Well, I think it's extremely unlikely that this will cost him the election.  Gay marriage is not the uppermost issue in most people's minds.  That small number of zealots for whom opposition to marriage is a make-or-break issue are almost certainly all Republicans already--that is, members of a dwindling, minority party.  They'd be the same people who didn't vote for Obama in 2008--which hurt him not at all.  

ABC News reported today that a majority of all Americans now support gay marriage.  I don't think Obama would have made his announcement if he'd thought it was going to hurt him.

Some one at the Gawker does not want Pres. Obama to be re-elected if they believe otherwise.
