Has anybody bothered to ask President Obama to put his personal feelings about same-sex marriage aside and think in terms of constitutionality.  If it's right for me, shouldn't it also be right for everybody else?  Choose your topic.

Moderator: He did, Obama feels that DOMA is unconstitutional and ordered to stop fighting it based on constitutionality. Have you read the articles? Besides, dont expect a republican house to pass legislation reversing DOMA. We the voters messed up and didnt vote. Therefore, Obama can only reverse doma in the courts by not fighting it. Barack Obama the individual is pro-gay marriage. But, the President/Politician can not say that. Obama will quietly allow doma to be reversed by the courts as a loud statement, will throw reversal of DOMA off course by the religious right. ...jake

Eat Fat to Lose Weight

By Jorge Cruise, Diet and Fitness Expert / Feb 26, 2011

Fat has been given a bad rap over the years, but not all fat is bad for you. In fact, some fats are essential for weight loss! My all-time favorite source of healthy fat is flaxseed oil. It's the richest source of omega-3 fats, which are often deficient in the typical American diet. Your body uses omega-3s to maintain the integrity and function of your body's 75 trillion cell membranes, which in turn support healthy joints, shiny hair and strong nails, radiant skin, and your muscles' membranes. And because it's so widely used throughout your body, it almost never gets stored as body fat!

And that's not all the good news: Flaxseed oil activates leptin, a hormone that helps suppress appetite and leaves you feeling full longer. If that weren't enough, flaxseed oil also activates a type of fat, called brown fat, that lies deep within your body and surrounds your vital organs. Leftover from the days when we needed to brave the elements with little clothing, brown fat burns calories for heat. When you activate your brown fat, you burn extra calories and boost your overall metabolism.

Fresh flaxseed oil tastes great, so don't be afraid to sip a spoonful daily. Or, make homemade vinaigrette out of it and drizzle liberally on your salads. Yum!
Take Action:

Boycott advertisers of Glenn Beck - Fox News.  Glenn Beck is anti-gay rights.
Update: DADT has been repealed. President Obama has kept his promise!
Boycott Bill O'Reilly and FOX News and their advertisers.  Bill discussed a French commercial by McDonalds that was meant to show that McDonalds is Gay Friendly. Bill said what is next? Is McDonalds going to be Al-Qaida friendly as well?  Imagine - Bill O'Reilly compares Gays to Al-Qaida!
Boycott Arizona the home of  "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities.  A remedy: Demand Republicans to  support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform!
Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians.
End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).  Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.
Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act).  ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of  LGBT workforce.
Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet.   The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
Remember David Kato, Gay activist - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay!
And Now, Model Wars!

DOMA move helps Obama with gays

By: Josh Gerstein / March 1, 2011 / Politico

President Barack Obama's decision to stop fighting lawsuits challenging the Defense of Marriage Act has dramatically warmed his relationship with gay and lesbian activists -- clearing the way for the president and Democrats to fundraise aggressively in the gay community in the crucial lead-up to his 2012 reelection bid.

"Folks in our affiliates around the country were grumbling about the pace of 'don't ask, don't tell' repeal and other things, but since the announcement, that's really changed," said Michael Mitchell of the National Stonewall Democrats. "I think it will be a game changer both with our organizers and also with the LGBT community at large."

"The mood has gotten a lot better," said DNC Treasurer Andrew Tobias, who is gay and has long been a key leader for the party in the LGBT community. "More and more, people are recognizing that we've made some very real gains and have a president and a party eager to make some more very real gains."

The praise is a sharp contrast from the complaints and protests from the gay community that marked much of Obama's first two years in office. Frustrated activists grew restless over snail's-pace progress on agenda items like the repeal of the military's ban on gays in uniform, and they watched with alarm as the Justice Department tried to justify keeping benefits from same-sex couples -- a key effect of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Some gay Democratic donors organized boycotts. Others picketed fundraisers Obama headlined, and even heckled him at public events.

Things changed, however, when the Senate in December passed legislation providing for repeal of "don't ask," enabling the president to make good on his promise to end the ban "on my watch." Two months later, the Justice Department announced it would no longer defend the marriage act, or DOMA, because the administration had determined the law is unconstitutional.

Though some activists cheered, others remain skeptical.

John Aravosis, a widely read gay blogger who helped organize a donation boycott of Democrats in November 2009, said Monday that he was pleased with Obama's decision on DOMA. But he's not ready to drop the boycott and link arms with the White House just yet.

"Talk to me in a year," said Aravosis, who writes Americablog. "It's a significant, significant change on DOMA … I think it's too early to say for the election. … It's going to take some time before he's turned this thing around."

Aravosis said he's withholding judgment because of the White House's measured, behind-the-scenes tactics on the "don't ask" repeal -- even though the president's party controlled both houses of Congress. The repeal legislation passed during the last week of the lame-duck session in December, just before Republicans took control of the House.

"There was not just bad blood but so little action until, frankly, the last two months," Aravosis said, noting most activists had given up any hope for repeal. Under Obama's strategy, he said, "DADT should have gone down, but didn't. The great, grand plan lost."

Nevertheless, some say Democrats already are cashing in on Obama's DOMA reversal. "People who haven't given in a long, long time e-mailed me their credit card numbers," said one gay Democratic fundraiser, who requested anonymity. "That wasn't happening before. … There's no question it's changed."

Others say the biggest political impact of the move will be in avoiding the drama that could have ensued if gay activists went into the 2012 election deeply dissatisfied with the president.

"I told the president.that if we went through two years and only passed the hate crimes bill, as important as it was, there would be significant unhappiness in the gay community," said Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who is openly gay. "Getting DADT repeal, that went a long way toward alleviating the sense of unhappiness. Now, the DOMA decision means there's no significant argument at all that the president has not been supportive."

"There were some people whose enthusiasm had definitely waned" for the president they had ardently supported, said Richard Socarides, who was an adviser to President Bill Clinton on gay issues when he signed DOMA in 1996. "The repeal of DADT and the Justice Department's action last week certainly lays the groundwork for a rapprochement. … There will be no question the president delivered in a major way for his gay supporters."

Socarides said the DOMA move comes just in time for the White House to tap the gay community for donations and grass-roots support before the campaign hits full-steam next year. "I still think they wasted precious time [on DADT and DOMA]. But from a purely political perspective, their timing looks pretty clever," he said.

The DOMA decision also carries another political benefit for Obama. It effectively puts the option of defending the law to Congress and, most likely, the GOP-led House.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders have been trying to please both tea party members and swing voters by focusing on the economy and not hot-button social issues. But Boehner will face intense pressure from social conservatives not only to fight for the law but to do it with arguments that gay activists see as homophobic.

"It's a stroke of brilliance to basically force the Republicans to carry the mantle," Aravosis said. "The White House should have realized this early on."

In an interview Sunday with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Boehner predicted that the House will fight for DOMA to "defend our actions in passing a bill that, frankly, passed overwhelmingly." But the speaker also seemed exasperated that Obama tossed a hot potato into Congress's lap, a move he said is "just as raw politics as anything I've seen."

Clarke Cooper of the Log Cabin Republicans, an organization of gay conservatives, agreed.

"It's a non-substantive move to try to rally certain supporters." Cooper said. "It doesn't take the statute or the law off the books."

The White House has insisted that not fighting challenges to DOMA was a cold-eyed legal decision, but the Democratic National Committee touted it Monday as a bold step for fairness and equal rights. "The president's decision is more than just a symbolic gesture -- it's a step forward in our country's enduring pursuit of greater equality," DNC executive director Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a blog post Monday.

Frank, meanwhile, said the move could pay off for the president in votes and grass-roots activism, more valuable than donations because "sitting presidents generally don't have a lot of trouble raising money." Meanwhile, "from a political mobilization standpoint, it's ideal." he added.

"If things look hopeless, it's not good for participation. On the other hand, if you've won everything, that's not good either," he said. "The ideal situation to encourage participation is to be winning -- for victory to be likely, but not guaranteed."

Obama's decision on DOMA angered social conservatives, but analysts note that he wasn't likely to find many votes among them in 2012 anyway. At the same time, Democratic strategists expect any disagreement from socially conservative swing voters will be overwhelmed by more pressing issues such as jobs and the economy.

And Obama's decision on DOMA, coupled with the repeal of "don't ask" could also energize liberals and young voters.

"This will be incredibly motivating, not just for gay voters, but for young voters this has become a priority issue," said Chad Griffin, a Democratic political consultant and gay-rights advocate.

Still, Obama has yet to publicly endorse the No. 1 goal of the gay community: sweeping, national recognition of same-sex marriage. While the president has said that his views on the issue are "evolving," several activists said they'd like to see him endorse "marriage equality" before the 2012 election.

While that's unlikely, deciding against defending DOMA cuts the president some slack.

"I do think it's important he complete his evolution sooner rather than later, but I do think this buys him a lot of breathing room," Socarides said.
