I don't mean to pick on anybody, but is there really any need for people to "reply to all" to share their view that a particular guy is hot?  We all get way too much email, and my hope is that members of the group will try to limit their use of "reply to all" for ongoing comments about issues, and not use it to tell everyone that you think # 4 is hot.  I'm glad you like # 4, but I can't imagine that anyone else really cares.  Thanks.

Boost Muscle Health with Vitamin C

Vitamin C plays a very important role in muscle recovery. This essential nutrient helps your body produce collagen, a major structural protein found in connective tissue that holds muscles, bones and other tissues together. But that's not the only reason you need vitamin C to build healthy muscles.

During exercise, as your breathing increases to meet the demands of your workout, the chemical interaction of oxygen with your cell membranes, protein and other cellular components creates unstable substances called free radicals. These highly reactive substances are much like small fires that must be extinguished before they burn, or "oxidize," neighboring molecules in other cells, creating muscle soreness and stiffness. That's where vitamin C steps in. As a dietary antioxidant, vitamin C blocks free radical damage in and around your cells.

Citrus fruits and dark green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamin C, along with most other fruits and vegetables (even iceberg lettuce!) However, to get enough of this powerhouse nutrient I recommend you take a vitamin C supplement every day - ideally, 1,000 milligrams.

  • Boycott Arizona the home of  "hater" - U.S. Senator John McCain. Arizona's Hateful anti-Immigration Law - encourages racial profiling and increases hatred towards minorities.  A remedy: Demand Republicans to  support Immigration Reform (The Dream Act). Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform! 
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores.  Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech!  STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost it's case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores.  A huge PR Disaster for TARGET!  Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customers. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays.  Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard? Perhaps TARGET would better understand the issue if they cared about David Kato - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay! That is because Uganda wants to kill gay people.  Again, TARGET invested in a political candidate that would Kill the Gays! 
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).  Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.    
  • Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act).  ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of  LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet.   The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • NEW: Boycott Donald Trump [Tune Out TRUMP], The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? Boycott NBC, CNBC! Boycott advertisers of The Apprentice and his other business's. Don't shop at any bullding with Donald Trump's name to include Trump Hotels, Casinos, Condo's, Offices, Shops!  The Donald has expressed extreme Hatred. He is a birther as well and brings out all the Bigots!  Remember how poorly Trump treated Rosie O'Donnel?  Now we know why he did that!  It was hate against a lesbian as we now know he is bigot.  Unforgiveable!  Get Ready to dump NBC & NBC NEWS because they air Donald Trump's "The Apprentice"!  Start Watching CBS Evening News with Katie Couric (Too Bad, Katie is leaving).
  • NEW: Boycott "APPLE." For the current owners and the aspiring owners of the I-phone,  Apple allows an application, "The Gay App", which is supposed to help gay individuals turn straight.  This is a step in the wrong direction.  Apple needs to know that the decision to allow this App on their products is a fallacious idea! Update: March 23, 2011:  Apple removed this app from USA stores; but, rumored to have them remain in some foreign stores.  This is offensive not just towards the LGBT community in the USA; but, offensive to  the entire LGBT community around the world.  How does anyone approve such a hateful, despicable app towards the LGBT community? Especially when Gay Teens are killing themselves after being harrassed by their church, parents, as well as  by bully's and teachers at school. The idea that this app was used, solicited is disgusting.  Still "no comment" from APPLE!

Uganda: Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera Speaks Out for LGBT Rights

New York --- The decision to give the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders to a Ugandan lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocate highlights the difficulty and danger advocates for LGBT rights face in many countries of Africa, Human Rights Watch said today.

The award, announced on May 3, 2011, will go to Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, founder and executive director of Freedom and Roam Uganda, an LGBT rights organization. In issuing the announcement, the award organization noted that Nabagesera has had the courage to appear on national television and radio stations in Uganda and has issued news statements on behalf of the gay community. In 2007 she was harassed at the World Social Forum in Nairobi, and on many occasions afterward, was hackled, threatened, and even attacked. Since then she has moved from house to house, afraid to stay long in the same place. Her name was on a "gay list" published by the Ugandan tabloid Rolling Stone on January 26, after which, another colleague on the list, David Kato, was murdered.

"This is a fitting tribute to the courage of one woman, Kasha Nabagesera, and to all activists working under conditions of extreme threat," said Dipika Nath, LGBT researcher at Human Rights Watch.

The award ceremony will be in the Victoria Hall of Geneva late in the year, the award organization said.

The Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders is a collaboration among 10 of the world's leading human rights organizations to give protection to human rights defenders worldwide. The Jury consists of: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights First, International Federation for Human Rights, World Organisation Against Torture, Front Line, International Commission of Jurists, German Diakonie, International Service for Human Rights, and HURIDOCS.

How Osama's death will affect the al-Qaeda name

Had al-Qaeda paid better attention, it might have learned a lesson or two from Florida orange juice.

In 1977 the Florida Citrus Commission's long-term spokeswoman--a young Anita Bryant at the peak of her popularity--spearheaded a highly publicized campaign to repeal a Dade County, Fla., gay rights ordinance. Bryant's strident and religious anti-gay crusading triggered a strong backlash in the gay and left-leaning communities nationwide, culminating in a boycott on Florida orange juice that was supported by other leading celebrities of the day.

The Citrus Commission was so stung by the negative publicity and the boycott that they fired their rogue pitchwoman in 1979. (Bryant's career never fully recovered.)

The moral of the story: It's never a great idea to have your brand identified with just one person.

"Florida orange juice took it hard. This is a classic branding case study," said brand consultant Rob Frankel. "Whenever you tie your entire brand to a human being, things can happen. If they personify the brand, they can take the whole thing down."

The Brand is the Brand

To be sure, al-Qaeda is by definition a fringe group--a brand aligned with extremism and out of touch with the rest of the world. But insofar as it is a brand, to what extent does the death of its founder affect its prospects going forward?

While Frankel suspects it will never fully recover, even if it doesn't disappear entirely, others--including President Obama--are more cautious. "There is no doubt that al-Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us," Obama said in his address to the country. "We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad."

That may sound like boilerplate political speech, but al-Qaeda and its offshoots have carried out smaller-scale attacks since 9/11, including the 2004 bombings of commuter trains in Madrid and the July 2005 bombings in London. These attacks may have occurred during Bin Laden's lifetime, but their nature suggest the organization has, as Mohamad Bazzi of the nonprofit Council on Foreign Relations writes, "transformed itself from a centralized group to a brand name used by assorted jihadist movements across the globe. The organization founded by Bin Laden in the 1980s has morphed into small, localized cells and affiliated groups that do not necessarily take orders from the old leadership."

In short, the degree to which a post-Bin Laden al-Qaeda continues to achieve its mission (wreak terror on the West in general and the U.S. in particular) is the degree to which the brand will survive going forward. Its leader's big mistake was conflating the brand with himself.

"You're not the brand; the brand is the brand," said Frankel. "You have to make it so that if you retire, go away or get killed, the brand keeps going." GE survived Jack Welch's retirement, after all, and Apple will survive Steve Jobs. Probably. Nazis still exist, Frankel points out, but without Hitler--the personification of the brand--they're irrelevant.

Some Advice for al-Qaeda

Adweek asked Brad VanAuken, chief brand strategist at the Blake Project, how he would (hypothetically) consult al-Qaeda going forward. "To live on past Osama Bin Laden, al-Qaeda must successfully launch attacks of at least the scale and shock value of the attacks of 9/11," he wrote--reluctantly, he said--in an email. "If this does not occur, al-Qaeda will eventually lose its cache."

Of course, al-Qaeda is on the wrong side of history. "Terrorism is a last-ditch effort to strike out in great frustration and anger when one's ideas have failed or been superceded by better ones," added VanAuken. Indeed, the current uprisings sweeping across the Middle East and North Africa reflect a much more attractive alternative to al-Qaeda's vision, and speak to the universal human cry for freedom. Perhaps the question to be asking is what impact the demise of Bin Laden will have on the brand of Islam.

"No one has done more damage to the brand of that religion than Osama Bin Laden, hijacking the religion, manipulating its meaning to support a cause far from its intended purpose," Derrick Daye, publisher of the Blake Project's Branding Strategy Insider, told Adweek.
