Beware of Liver Disease

The leading liver problem in the U.S. is not alcoholic cirrhosis or hepatitis, but nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Affecting roughly 1 in 4 Americans, it's caused by obesity and insulin resistance - and at least half of all type 2 diabetics are affected.

NAFLD is a progressive disease with three distinct stages:

•Simple fatty liver, or steatosis, is characterized by elevations in liver enzymes and fatty deposits in the liver (at least 10% of the liver cells are replaced by fat). If the disease stops in this stage and does not progress, it remains relatively benign.

•Unfortunately, for 1 in 5 patients, it progresses to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, involving inflammation of the liver.

•From there, half develop cirrhosis, marked by advanced and irreversible scarring, fibrosis and loss of liver function.

Why am I telling you this? Because the most significant risk factors for progression include type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

To treat or protect against this condition, I recommend regular supplementation with nutrients that enhance liver function (particularly detoxification). Look for the following products - as stand-alone products or in combination formulas - in your health food store:

•Lipoic acid, 100 mg

Further, Senator McCain voted against ending DADT and Blocked Immigration reform! 
  • Boycott Target, Best Buy, Gold's Gym - for donating money towards anti-gay political candidates/organizations. Update: (12/26/2010): Target is continuing to donate to anti-gay groups/causes/politicians. Update 03/08/11 - Lady Gaga Ends Target Partnership, Reportedly Over Target's Poor LGBT Stance. Update 3/25/2010 - Target displays their hypocrisy and Sues California Gay Rights Group for Lobbying Outside Stores.  Target is attempting to block the LGBT right of free speech!  STOP SHOPPING AT TARGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Update 4/8/2011: Target lost it's case to stop the LGBT from canvassing in front of their stores.  A huge PR Disaster for TARGET!  Perhaps Target should go out of business as they betrayed their investers and customers. Target contributed massive funds to a politician who would like to exterminate gays.  Now, Target can not stop us from Boycotting them, nor picketing, nor talking to customers near their stores; although, Target allows a anti-gay company such as the Salvation Army to stand outside their door and speak with customers and raise money. Isn't this a double standard? Perhaps TARGET would better understand the issue if they cared about David Kato - Uganda, who was slain because he is gay! That is because Uganda wants to kill gay people.  Again, TARGET invested in a political candidate that would Kill the Gays! 
  • End DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).  Prevents Federal employees and Gays in the Military from gaining equal benefits. Prevents Gay Partners from gaining equal benefits.    
  • Pass ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act).  ENDA would prevent employment discrimination of  LGBT workforce.
  • Boycott Salvation Army as they will not hire Gays! "DO NOT DONATE TO THEM."
  • BOYCOTT "Chick-fil-a" for donating to anti-gay marriage groups.
  • BOYCOTT KOCH INDUSTRIES PRODUCTS- to include their products: Angel Soft toilet paper / Brawny paper towels / Dixie plates, bowls, napkins & cups / Mardi Gras napkins and towels / Quilted Northern toilet paper / Soft 'n Gentle toilet paper / Sparkle napkins / Vanity fair napkins / Zee napkins / Georgia-Pacific paper products & envelopes / All Georgia-Pacific lumber & building products (INVISTA Products) / Lycra / Stainmaster Carpet.   The billionaire - Koch brothers are ultra republican - tea bag founders/supporters that do not support causes of the LGBT community.
  • Boycott WALMART - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, force criticized Wal-Mart for denying employee benefits to same-s-x partners and for failing to prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. By comparison, the group said two other chain stores with a strong presence in New York, Costco and Walgreens, did much better.
  • NEW: Boycott Donald Trump [Tune Out TRUMP], The Apprentice and NBC Network! At CPAC, Trump said he is considering a run for president as a Republican. In a interview with the Des Moines Register, Trump added that he opposes all forms of legal recognition for gay couples, not just marriage. "They should not be able to marry," he said. So why does NBC keep the Apprentice when Donald Trump has stated he may run for president? Boycott NBC, CNBC! Boycott advertisers of The Apprentice and his other business's. Don't shop at any bullding with Donald Trump's name to include Trump Hotels, Casinos, Condo's, Offices, Shops!  The Donald has expressed extreme Hatred. He is a birther as well and brings out all the Bigots!  Remember how poorly Trump treated Rosie O'Donnel?  Now we know why he did that!  It was hate against a lesbian as we now know he is bigot.  Unforgiveable!  Get Ready to dump NBC & NBC NEWS because they air Donald Trump's "The Apprentice"!  Start Watching CBS Evening News with Katie Couric (Too Bad, Katie is leaving).
  • NEW: Boycott "APPLE." For the current owners and the aspiring owners of the I-phone,  Apple allows an application, "The Gay App", which is supposed to help gay individuals turn straight.  This is a step in the wrong direction.  Apple needs to know that the decision to allow this App on their products is a fallacious idea! Update: March 23, 2011:  Apple removed this app from USA stores; but, rumored to have them remain in some foreign stores.  This is offensive not just towards the LGBT community in the USA; but, offensive to  the entire LGBT community around the world.  How does anyone approve such a hateful, despicable app towards the LGBT community? Especially when Gay Teens are killing themselves after being harrassed by their church, parents, as well as  by bully's and teachers at school. The idea that this app was used, solicited is disgusting.  Still "no comment" from APPLE!

11 Dating Success Tips For Single Gay Men

Due to growing up in a homophobic society, most gay men as teenagers had to keep their sexuality hidden for fear of social backlash and further damage to their already shaky self-image.

One of the developmental tasks of all adolescents is to establish productive relationships with their peer group and to understand and manage their sexuality. Dating provides fertile training ground for these teens for learning about themselves and how to establish and maintain healthy intimate relationships as they continue to mature and grow.

Due to growing up in a homophobic society, most gay men as teenagers had to keep their sexuality hidden for fear of social backlash and further damage to their already shaky self-image. Some boys chose to distance themselves completely from dating, while others chose to date their female peers to more easily "fit in" and be accepted. For some, there was no other choice but to date girls, while for others it was an attempt to extinguish the feelings they had for males. Very few gay men had the luxury of being able to openly date other gay males as teenagers and to live authentically.

Fortunately, today's generation of gay youth are experiencing slightly more liberal attitudes and acceptance from their peer group about being gay, but there's still a long way to go. As a result, many gay men as adults remain perplexed and confused about how to date other men. Without training, education, and support, many gay men are forced to "wing it" as they mingle and mate with other men, leaving many of them unsatisfied with their dating experiences and wondering if they'll ever find a loving partner to settle down with.

What follows is a list of tips about things for gay men to keep in mind as they go about meeting other men in pursuit of their Mr. Right. Add your own to the list and keep it handy as a quick reference guide as you embark upon your dating adventures to promote greater success in your romantic life.

Dating Success Tips

1. Live your life to the max! Creating a full life puts you in charge of your own happiness and puts less emphasis and dependence on finding a relationship to make you whole. You must be whole as a person first before a healthy relationship can be cultivated. By developing yourself, those internal feelings of zest and fulfillment will show on the outside as well. Very attractive indeed!

2. Know who you are, what your needs and values are, and what you stand for. This will take you far as you delve through the dating world. Having a clear vision and purpose will help to keep you centered and grounded on your quest.

3. Examine your relationship history and determine what behaviors worked for you and which ones didn't. Identify the obstacles that prevent you from engaging in the kinds of relationships that you want.

4. Don't confuse chemistry with compatibility. While that "chemical spark" is important, a person's enduring qualities are what really help to lay the foundation for potential long-term relationship success.

5. Determine if you are really ready for a relationship and assess your true motives. One of the biggest relationship "sabotagers" is not being able to be fully present, being distracted by other needs or issues, and having other priorities that compete with the relationship. Determine if you are "dateable" and develop goals to accomplish true relationship readiness. Develop your self-esteem and create a vision for how you'd like your life to be.

6. Don't stay in a dating relationship that's not working just for the sake of staving off loneliness or the fear of hurting the other's feelings. This only robs both of you of precious time that could be better served improving your quality of life in new directions. Learn to be assertive and direct with your needs and feelings.

7. Don't bail out of a dating relationship at the first sign of trouble. Relationships take hard work, and conflict is actually a necessary precursor to deeper connection and intimacy. Assess what's missing and what the barriers are, and determine whether negotiation is possible. There can be no growth without healthy conflict; however, know the difference between that and when the relationship really isn't a "good fit."

8. Be proactive in getting what you want, and take responsibility for what happens. Conquer your anxieties about taking initiative. Don't stand on the sidelines hoping someone will make contact with you. Make that move yourself, and choose to approach someone if you're interested. Internalize the mantra: NO MORE MISSED OPPORTUNITIES!

9. Face your fears of rejection directly. A turn-down for a date has nothing to do with you as a person; it has everything to do with the other person's projections and needs. Know that you are worthy and deserving.

10. Build your support network. Surround yourself with positive people who will affirm you and support you. Family and friends provide a much needed source of connection, love, and fun that can truly enhance your life as a single gay man.

11. Be careful of casual sexual encounters if your goal is to meet a prospective life partner. Typically, sexual release is the primary aim of such encounters, which can confuse and disillusion you concerning the type of men available; you may start to believe that gay men only want sex and nothing deeper or more significant. Put yourself in situations where you are more likely to meet men with similar goals, and if you choose to "play along the way," always practice responsible, safe sex.

The threshold for submitting shareholder proposals is quite low. If you look at the latest target proxy, there are two shareholder proposals (one on compensation benchmarking, the other on electronics recycling). One shareholder stated then owned about 5,000 shares, the other stated they owned $2,000 of stock. ($2000 is the amount specified by the SEC rule 14a-8).

 

So getting it on is not the problem… I think someone mentioned the market cap of target in another post was something like $34B --- you would have to get the majority of ownership to vote with  you.

 

Shareholder proposals almost always are defeated. (Typically the board recommends against proposal, and folks usually vote with the board's recommendation).

Today I'm going to ask you to clear your mind, relax and refocus on your weight-loss journey.


Dieting can be stressful, and this is probably one of the biggest reasons why people fall off the wagon. Sometimes there are just too many things to think about and too many temptations, and dieting can actually cause anxiety, which leads to emotional overeating.


When you're in the middle of your weight-loss journey, it's easy to lose perspective. Your short-term goal is to lose some weight. And in the short term, mistakes and splurges can be frustrating. But when you clear your mind and view your diet in the proper context of longer-term goals – your overall health and wellness – you realize that a bump or detour here or there doesn't really matter as long as you're moving in the right direction.


Remember that if you take the right small steps, you will get there. If you trip every so often, it's just not that big a deal. But when you feel that things are moving too quickly for you, it's easy to forget.


So take five minutes, clear your mind and meditate. Find some place where you can tune everything else out and close your eyes. Think about the weight-loss journey you are on and recognize that you are moving forward, even if it is more slowly than you might like or expect. Breathe deeply. Relax. Then open your eyes and press on.

Donald Trump accused of homophobic remarks

Donald Trump is being accused of racism after knocking Barack Obama's education, and it evidently doesn't stop there.  Now, a former employee says he's a male chauvinist and homophobic.


The reality show judge turned political hopeful has angered the masses by insinuating that Obama got into an Ivy League school because he's black.  Evidently, he's also known to put women and gays through hell as well.


Julian Long, a gay man who once worked in a Trump restaurant, says his former boss put his homosexual staffers through the ringer.  Politicususa writes:


"Trump… often harassed, demeaned and humiliated his gay employees by referring to them collectively as 'the fa-gots.'"


Long also told the website that Trump "subjected female employees to frequent sexual harassment, forcing them to endure the lewd and lascivious remarks he made to them."


This all evidently occurred when the Donald was married to Ivanka, so it didn't happen yesterday.  However, remarks like these aren't easily forgotten.


Trump recently said he does not support marriage equality for gays and lesbians.
