Both of you make many good points.  Anyone who is serious about getting a healthy body can read through the typos and avoid quibbling about the choices you suggested for alternative, less caloric foods or snacks than we might be eating now.  Unfortunately many, if not most, of the attractively packaged and aggressively marketed processed ready-to-eat foods carry a minefield of preservatives, additives, flavor enhancers, you name it, which were unknown to the human species a couple of centuries ago and probably contribute to many of our modern chronic and some acute illnesses. 

Jake, you provide a truly remarkable motivational program to others in this society through your unique choice of public venues and consistently high standards of public service.   In many respects, you are the new Internet generation spokesman from a long line of fitness impresarios like Atlas, Wieder, La lane and others.  You remind us daily to become physique conscious and wear the healthy body we were born with.

Wait...a pound a month? Isn't that a little slow? Well, mounds of research indicate that you're more likely to keep weight off if you lose it slowly. Besides, losing a pound a month doesn't require drastic changes in your eating habits. It can be as simple as eating two egg rolls with your Chinese stir-fry instead of three. Here are 100 painless ways to cut 100 or more calories a day. As a bonus, they all reduce fat or sugar, which means, calorie for calorie, you're getting more vitamins and minerals.

1. Spread 1 tablespoon of all-fruit jam on your toast rather than 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.

2. Replace 1 cup of whole milk with 1/2 cup of nonfat milk.

3. Eat 2 poached eggs instead of 2 fried eggs.

4. Replace 1/2 cup of granola with 2 cups of Cheerios.

5. Instead of using whole milk and eggs to prepare 2 slices of French toast, use nonfat milk and egg whites.

6. Snack on an orange and a banana instead of a Snickers candy bar.

7. Munch on 35 pretzel sticks instead of 1 ounce of dry-roasted peanuts.

8. Replace 1 cup of sweetened applesauce with 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce.

9. On your lamb-and-vegetable kabob, replace 2 of the 4 chunks of meat with fresh whole mushrooms.

10. Dip an artichoke in 1 tablespoon of low-fat mayonnaise instead of 1 1/2 tablespoons of regular mayonnaise.

Moderator: actually i have some problems with this. the nuts may be higher in calorie, but healthier than pretzels. I love pretzels rather than chips; but pretzels shall increase your appetite. Peanuts will not do this. The peanut is a good fat. The pretzel is not a good carb. low fat mayo is often posion and has hidden fats. Instead, buy low fat or no-fat greek yogurt. cheerios? you serious? By Uncle Sams Cereal instead. also, try the natural sweetewner stevia (Truvia) instead of sugar. Also, you can find bakign sugar that is already combined with Stevia to reduce your syugar consumption as well as calories. Want to cut back on carbs; but love rice? Try black rice. It has lowest glycemic index and tastes great (avail at health food stores). replace ground beef with ground turkey. Replace pasta with spagetti squash. Cut rh spagetti squash in half. Spppon pout the seeds. Boil the spagetti squash for 1/2 hr in water, than remove from water and fork out the squash. It appears like spagetti and tastes great. Than pour on fresh tomato sauce with you seasoned ground turkey balls. problem is you just can't cut back. You must learn how to eat proper;y and make it a lifetime practice. start eating at home and stop eating out. Stop eating frozen diet meals (they are loaded with chemicals, sodiuum and have too little top eat). Cook with real food. Want to lose weight? ho to a farmers market instead of a grocery store. ....jake
