I had the pleasure of working on a movie with Max Emerson, "Violet Tendencies", two years ago. He is even handsomer in real life, with flawless skin. He was also a nice, down-to-earth young man. I hope he haws a successful career. He deserves it.

Discrimination, shame also play a role in high rates of anxiety and depression, study finds
WEDNESDAY, Sept. 7 (HealthDay News) -- Discrimination, harassment and shame experienced by black gay and bisexual men can contribute to depression and anxiety, a new study says.
University of Michigan researchers used online surveys to ask 54 black gay or bisexual men about depression and anxiety symptoms and prejudicial incidences in the community and at work.
Anxiety was reported by 33 percent of the men, and depression by 30 percent. Those rates are higher than in the general population, the study authors noted.
The researchers also found that 95 percent of the men reported discrimination and harassment at least once within the previous year, and 11 percent said they experience those problems weekly.
Men with higher levels of feelings of shame or disapproval about their sexual orientation were more likely to feel depressed or anxious.
The study was published in the latest issue of the journal Depression Research and Treatment.
"If we think about a whole pie that represents factors that may cause depression and anxiety among this population, findings suggest that discrimination and internalized homo-negativity make up over 50 percent of the pie," lead author Louis F. Graham, of the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, said in a Center for Advancing Health news release.

NEW YORK -- Pop singer Cyndi Lauper and her colleagues will be opening a shelter for LGBT young people on Friday, Sept. 9.
The gay icon's shelter on West 154th Street in Harlem will be called True Colors Residence and will support young people who have been kicked out of their homes and disowned by their parents or guardians.
An estimated 3,000 to 8,000 LGBT youths are homeless in New York City, according to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
"In New York City, a very disproportionate number (up to 40%), of homeless youth identify as LGBT," Lauper said in a letter to supporters published online. "Even more disturbing are reports that these young people often face discrimination and at times physical assault in some of the very places they have to for help. This is shocking and inexcusable!"
"Kids are coming out in greater numbers as they see themselves accepted and represented on TV and in movies, but they're still being kicked out of their homes or running away and living on the streets," Lauper said in a statement.
"We need to make sure we're taking care of them. This is the next generation of the LGBT community."
The six-story, energy-efficient building will have 30 studio apartments, a computer room, a library and communal space. Residents, who must be between the ages of 18 and 24, will pay rent based on income, according to Section 8 rules.
"Our primary goal is to provide a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment that will empower our young residents to be the self-loving, happy, and successful individuals they were meant to be," Lauper said in the online letter.
Organizers originally hoped that the shelter would be operational by winter 2011, but construction that began in February 2010 was completed early.
True Colors Residence is the vision of Lauper, her publicist Lisa Barbaris, and Colleen Jackson of the West End Intergenerational Residence. They said they recognized a need for a safe place for homeless LGBT youths, who often face discrimination and violence in mainstream or religion-sponsored shelters. They also were aware that most programs for homeless youth end coverage at age 18, often leaving them back on the streets where they may be tempted to turn to prostitution and drugs to survive.
Lauper donated money to the shelter through her True Colors Fund. The start-up cost was estimated at $11 million, and most of the funding was provided by New York City's Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Gay rights activists are continuing to "glitterize" their opponents. The Blaze has covered these assaults in sequence. So far, we've seen glitter dumped on Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, and in the waiting room at the Bachmann & Associates clinic. Now, a new attack involves some creatively unconventional antics.
The story can be summarized as follows: At the Minnesota State Fair, LGBT equality activists took to a ski lift to drop glitter on the Minnesota For Marriage booth. But the devil is, of course, in the details. Apparently, this wasn't a random attack. Aside from their disagreement over issues pertaining to marriage equality, the activists had another bone to pick.
According to ThinkProgress, the glitter attack was launched after the fair purportedly gave the anti-gay marriage group last-minute booth space. But Minnesotans United for All Families (a pro-gay marriage group) was allegedly not afforded a spot at the fair.
So, activists hopped on the ski lift, traveled over the anti-gay marriage advocates and spilled glitter on them, while shouting "Equality for all!" and "Where's our booth?"
